Chaco Canyon Revisted

For the past few years, the trek to Chaco Canyon has been almost a yearly one. Although, I think I missed going last year. However, I did get to go the other week and although the weather was a bit cccccold and windy, we still had a great time. I still have not really seen all there is to see-this place is huge and covers quite a bit of area. I don't know if I will ever feel like I've really seen all that there is to see of Chaco Canyon. It is mind boggling to think that an ancient civilization had such massive structures and a complex societal life. Not to mention the astro-astronomy that took place here. If you ever take a trip to New Mexico, be sure to carve out some time to see this cultural treasure. Well worth the time and effort, but certainly a full day's trip. It's about 2 1/2-3 hours from my door. I know I've posted and written about this before, but I know new eyes land here each week. You can search this blog for other Chaco Canyon postings.

On this particular trip, I actually has a chance to wander around Pueblo Bonita like I never had in the past trips here. The rooms do go on and on. And, I've never been there that late in the day, so the light was so very different from previous trips. I can't even begin to imagine what life was like in what seemed to be a very busy and well populated area so many centuries ago.

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

Chaco Canyon is one of the most wonder-filled places on Earth! It's been several years since my last visit, but I remember it with joy! Great shadows!

The shadow is as massive and bold as this city structure - lovely too! We are a bit Eurocentric and think that the great cities of the world are London, Paris and such. It seems that the cultures of the past in North America were equally magnificent. They were built to last as this shows. Education and a fun of learning tells us we must learn more that what was printed history...and that is by seeing with our own eyes!

Wow! It seems you had a great time in the place.

I am so envious watching. As Ralph stated about the great cities in the world? I guess, I don't agree for sure. There are more greater cities that never been upgraded LoL*

Enjoy your w/end.

I'm sorry we missed Chaco Canyon on our trip to New Mexico. If we go again, I'll be sure to add it to the list. It must be dream-like, walking among the echoes of an ancient civilization.
