Once In A Blue Moon

Or, so I thought it was...

I thought Jan. 1st was the "blue moon" day where there is a full moon that occurs twice in one month. But, that was Dec. 31st! As it rose tonight (New Year's Day), though, it still looked full.

Which makes me think as to which really matters more-reality or what we think is reality?

My SSS submission for today is the shadow of a chamisa (aka "rabbit brush") shrub on an old and abandoned vehicle off the side of the road. Don't you just love all those layers of patina?

I also got a bit ambitious the other day and put all of my 2009 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. You can view them by clicking here and then select the "Shadow Shot" set.

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

The old chrome still takes the reflection well, the bush looks real. Interestingly, the lack of the bright plating above the reflected shrub leaves an interesting pattern itself - it looks like a ball of smoke above the bush on the bumper. A bit odd, I wonder as the rust progresses, I wonder if a rusty pattern replicating he bush would be the result. I suppose rust has its own artistic look...

The layers show me a planet from space.

Yes I love all the textures, especially the blue against the rust, it almost looks like the reflection of our own blue planet...very cool!

A beautiful abstraction, the shadow blending with the rust and deterioration of the vehicle. Very strong!

wonderful image Paula! I have often thought of taking photos of rust and detail shots of weather worn texture outside that I see everyday and then blowing them up into large paintings.....but I never get around to it. And I don't think I could capture the beauty like you did with this photo.

happy new years to you! xo
