23 Skidoo

"The last Sopapilla" © Paula Scott Molokai Girl Studio

I'll bet you're not quite sure exactly what this image is of. Finishing up dinner at a New Mexican restaurant, I noticed how the last piece of sopapilla looked (it already had been broken in half by my husband). When I saw it, it seemed very abstract. A sopapilla  is much like biscuit dough deep fried and served with honey. If comes with traditional New Mexican dishes in just about any restaurant. They are like eating a wonderful pillow! Serving this is a dual purpose-the honey helps to calm down the heat in your mouth from the green chilies served in the dish. It's like having a dessert included with our meal.Simply put, they are quite yummy.

On to 23 skidoo. I was about to use that phrase with my son (he was headed out the door).  I stopped, because I thought about how I really didn't know what it meant and where that expression came from. Thinking I should know the meaning of the words I use, I looked it up. Apparently, there is no agreement as to it's origin. You can read what Wikipedia has to say about it and decide for yourself.

In the meantime, I'm going to 23 skidoo. It's the longest day of the year, the first day of summer, and I'm going to take advantage of that!

Happy first day of summer!

Looks and sounds like a very tasty bread.

The sopapilla looks divine :) It seems to be from an eggy consistence, kind of like a deep fried cream puff sans the filling. An apéritif, side dish or desert - I cannot say which form is better - I only wish this treat would migrate to New England!

Ha ha ha... what a cool name.

I know that is a sort of bread! But naming that Mexican bread is out of my knowledge. TY for the new word of the day.

We had Soltice last night.

Have a blessed Sunday, girl.

Hugs.

Do you suppose this is a remnant of the Last Supper?

Interesting. 'Soppa' in Finnish means 'soup'. All kinds of soup.
