Light Trails

You know you can paint with light, right? Well, if you didn't know, you can. Actually, I'm sure it's happened to you by mistake with a digital camera or cell phone when the camera's shutter stayed open longer than the time you thought it needed to take the shot and you moved your camera around. And you see streaks of light in a blurry image. It's even more fun if you do it on purpose!

But, if you're thinking that's what I did here with this photo, that's not the case. I guess you'd call it 'contrived' as I added it to the image-along with shifting the color a bit. It was a blurry shot on my cell phone in a furniture store. This was the display behind a headboard. Pretty cool. The display, I mean. The image ended up not being exactly what I was going for (too blurry), but I did get the really cool shadow that these hanging glass orbs were casting! So, I took it into photo editing software and went to town. A bit more interesting to me with this altered version. Here's the original so that you have a reference:

You might like the unaltered version better for all I know. Me? I like the tweaks.

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

These appear as transparent and 3-D orbs floating in space. A wonderful effect - it seems that the unexpected effects we hadn't planned on...make unique and slightly abstract art. Unplanned and whimsical art!

Your photo just goes to show that many times "mistakes" really aren't!
