Remembering and Honoring

Memorial Day Weekend 2011

Another "too good to pass up" kind of thing. I was over at Rio Rancho's City Hall in the Council Chambers where our city council meets and this shadow presented itself to me so perfectly! Thank goodness for the cell phone once again!

I thought this image to be a perfect tribute to those who served our country so bravely. If I were home right now in Hawaii, I'd be sure to stop by the cemetery at Punchbowl Crater. Not only is my mother interned there, but it is a Memorial for all those who served in the Armed Services for our country.

Me and My Shadow

This is me and my shadow at the Quarai Ruins last Sunday. Although, I don't know why this hole was there. The Quarai is one of three missions/church of the Salinas Pueblo Missions. I think it is my favorite of the three. You can view an image of the interior of the chruch on a previous post.

It was an epic trip made with two other 'cohorts' from our Flickr Albuquerque/Santa Fe group. We had many stops along he way (and many a great shadow shots too). After we visited these ruins, we stopped off in the sweet town of Mountainaire and then headed out past Willard to the salt flats. So, if I don't get sidetracked, I hope to post them in the near future.

To those of you who served in the Armed Forces for our country-a heartfelt thank you. It is an act of self -sacrifice and courage that I'm not sure I posses. I am grateful and in awe at the same time.

One last tidbit: here's a great link that offers ideas on shadow shots! I'm wondering if I am unleashing a 'monster' by sharing this with everyone, but it certainly generates ideas on taking shadow shots!

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

Memorial Day has turned into a secular holiday, being on a Monday and no work for many - the true meaning lost these days...

When I was (much) younger, May 31 was a day to remember the fallen and the living who still served. It was originally Remembrance Day. That we will still remember the fallen in service.

The flag and eagle are wonderful in subject and shadow. That we may never forget...

Oh, I DO like you and your shadow! What fun!

I ALMOST LOST MY SHADOW

I almost lost my shadow,
I left it in the park;
I heard my mommy calling,
For it was getting dark;

She has no use for shadows,
She thinks they are quite grim,
And when she saw my shadow,
She thought it was a “him.”

I had to educate her
And tell her it was “she’
And now my faithful shadow
Is welcome as can be!

Well, I bookmarked the shadow-help link, Paula. Whether you've unleashed monsters remains to be seen. LOL

I love your shadow shots. (Nice hat!), and as a Veteran, I appreciate your sentiments for Memorial Day. I will spend a quiet weekend with a family BBQ on Sunday and a trip to the local cemetery on Monday for a short program.
I'll check out all of your links later. I need to go visit the others. Gonna buy one of those hero pros from John.(or is it Mark?) I seem to get your men confused.

Peace dear friend. In some way, we all fought for peace.

Some gave all, all gave some.
