Rain Catcher

    RAIN CATCHER

You know, cell phone cameras are just too much fun these days. I find that it isn't always something I reserve for 'in a pinch' when I don't have any other camera around. No siree. They can make a mundane image look so much more interesting! Particularly if you use one of the free ap downloads-such as this one which is called 'retro camera'. There are about 5 different retro cameras in this on camera ap (short for application).

These are my rain catchers and they capture rain as it comes off of our roof (we have a flat roof). It hardly rains here in NM where we are, so it isn't often that they have water spilling down.

I do miss having rain-I cannot remember when it last rained here. I mean, really rained. We've had some moments where the sky was just 'spitting', but not anything measurable. I love the smell of rain and how it cleans the air.

Back in the '70's when I was in high school (now I'm really dating myself), my girlfriend and I went to see Jose Feliciano in a live concert (this was in Honolulu). One man. One guitar. He captivated us for the entire two hours that he was on stage. So much talent. So much energy. So much presence. And, being the teenage girls that we were, we immediately had a crush on him. We also loved James Taylor, but I don't think he came out to Hawaii to perform. At least, not back then.

HONU

Honu means 'sea turtle' in the Hawaiian language. I have a sticker on the back window of my car of a petroglyph honu. Stickers on glass windows make for really nice shadows-so sharp and clear! I love my honu sticker.

Rain catchers are new to me! Is it a desert thing? I use rain barrels for my gardens, but their shadows would not be anywhere near as nice. :)

We in New England get the rain you are denied in NM. The arid southwest is comfortable less the humidity we obtain from the Atlantic. So, water must be retained from the sky above from whenever it occurs. The shadows that result from the catcher are as cool as I hope the collected water is...

Jose Feliciano — one of the all-time greats. You'll always be glad you saw and heard him.
Love the photo of your rain-catcher. Great shadows, Paula!

Do you suppose your rain catcher would work as a dream catcher as well?

WONDERFUL NONSENSE

A shadow’s a wonderful thing;
O listen! Can you hear it sing?
It tells of a time
Before there was crime—
Trust that and you’ll trust anything!

I did not know this song by Jose F. Very pretty. Both of your ShadowShots are terrific. Your unused rain catcher would get plenty of use here in N.Idaho...it seems to rain at least once a week in Spring.

Oh Dear Paula... If you would have been visiting me, you could have all the rain you'd need to hold your cravingsm for at least ten years! I think the sun is streaming out this morning, but still rain in the forecast, or at least the chance of it.
Cold too. We actually used the furnace last night. It was 59 degrees in the house. Very slow Spring arrival this year.
I remember a rain/hail storm in Silver City some years ago. Seems it rains often from 4th of July to Labor day, then fry the rest of the year.
Love the shadows in both shots. Nice Honu.

Peace
