The Acronyms of the E's

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our EIGHTH round! Some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "E".

ESCARPMENT

Escarpment (from Wikipedia): is a steep slope or long cliff that results from erosion or faulting and separates two relatively level areas of differing elevations.

This one is at Chaco Canyon. New Mexico is FULL of escarpments! I should have more examples of it, but I guess when something is in abundance, you don't give it a second thought.

But this really is a slight diversion from the acronyms. I won't list them all, but thought I'd list a few as they are interesting (I am also including some abbreviations just for fun):

E. east, Eastern, Engineering, English
ED: the Deaprtment of Education
ECG: elctrocardiogram
E.C.M.: European Common Market
EDP: eletronic data processing
EDT: Eastern Daylight Time
EEG: electroencepholagram
E.F.T.: Electronic Funds Transfer
Eg. : for example
EM: enlisted man
ENE: east northeast
ESE: east southeast
EPA: environmental protective agency
ERA: equal rights amendment
E.T.: Eastern Time
ETA: estimated time of arrival
ETD: estimated time of departure
ETV: educational television
EVA: extra vehicular activity

And, let's not forget the most famous of them all coined by Rachael Ray: EVOO: extra virgin olive oil!

I do hope you have an exceedingly exceptional and exquisite day!

We certainly have a list of acronyms that we live by everyday.
Fascinating when just a few for one letter are printed.
Very original post today.

I will always regret not visiting Chaco Canyon when we were in New Mexico back in 1992. We did some driving through the Jemez but couldn't get everywhere we wanted to go.

I do love those red rocks - that's such a beautiful area. EVOO is my favorite - ETA is always late. :)

Acronimes are difficult to detect sometimes. I think "asap" was one I really didn't understand. "Awol" is another one.

Thanks for your visit and comment. We can do without electricity if we want. Try camping in a tent on a survival tour.

Your escarpment word seemed familiar then I remembered, it is a term they seem to use in French walking guides, I don't think I have ever seen it in English ones. Maybe the word is too French, LOL. Your escarpment looks worth a scramble.

Funny, "evoo" is the sound I make when my hubby applies extra virgin olive oil to my... oh, never mind, LOL.

Escarpments remind me of my solo cross-USA drive, when I hit Utah. The otherworldly feel of the terrain there is breathtaking, too. And I love acronyms as well!

I had a little time so I decided to float around in cyberspace. I jumped on over to your site from Gigi Hawaii. This is loads of fun.

My mom was born and lived for a time on Molokai, but I've never been there. I moved to Chicago in 1974 and moved back to Oahu a couple of years ago. My son lives in Albuquerque, the year before in Santa Fe and the year before in Espanola. I guess that's why I found your blog so interesting.

I'll be strolling through your fun blog some more.
