ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our seventh round-some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter. is, "V".
Vigee-Lebrun (a self portrait)
Louise Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun happened to be a very well recognized woman painter in her time (18th century). Pretty gutsy woman and very good at what she did. You can click on her name here to find out more about her.
VLA
VLA=very LARGE array. A radio astronomy observatory near Magdelena, NM (on the San Augustine plains). They are large and they are listening! A must see if you ever drop through New Mexico.
Virginia Creeper
Virginia creeper. The first time I saw this plant was on an old red brick building in San Diego. I was astonished at how beautiful it looks in the fall when all the leaves turn into glorious shades of red. Of course, I have 'one' planted here at our house (it takes over the world). It is doing its best to cover the 2 story building it was planted against. It's beginning to win!
Virgin Mary
I just got done with a 12 day meme called a "Virgin a Day". It was an amazing journey, I believe, for all that participated. It was hosted by Rebecca Brooks. I think were all surprised at what unfolded. The images yielded from this meme, let alone the astonishing writings by all who partook is a sight to behold. I hope you are curious enough to check it out. You can see all of my posts in one fell swoop by typing in, "A Virgin a Day" in the search box at the top left of this blog.

Vla is a Dutch word used for a custardy dessert, usually yellow. So, when VLA came up, that's the first I thought of. Imagine my surprise when something completely unrelated to custardy desserts came up!
Virginia's not as creepy as I had feared! I thought VLA had something to do w vertical launch. Vigee looks familiar.
ROG, ABC Wednesday team
You always have the most interesting posts. Love all your V choices and I'm off to see your Virgin series now.
That first painting of Louise Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun is lovely. She was beautiful. But, I have to say, I never heard of her before, so thanks for sharing the picture and information about her.
I'm rather partial to a virginia creeper myself, they are stunning in Autumn. Ah for the days of wearing large hats; how often women painters were overlooked in the past. Good that those times have changed.
Vigee-Lebrun was very talented! I wonder why I've never heard of her before!
Many have never heard of her because of gender bias in art history.
Even to this day...
What a nice array of V's. Enjoyed each picture and your narration on each.
As always, an amazing array of information. I'll read more about the beautiful Vigee-Lebrun and your dozen paintings on the Twelve Virgin Meme.
This is very clever. I like the portrait of the artist best. I am familiar with the VLA's. I remember them from living there. So strange. I like the plant too, and of course, Mary is wonderful and goes without saying. Great game!
xox,
Noelle
I lurve Virginia and those creepers. They're so beautiful against a brick building.
Now this sounds like an interesting meme and I love your choices of V. No, I haven't read Falling Into the Arms of God but did mark it in Amazon to look at later. I particularly like the big dish in the NM desert. Looks surreal.
Quite a collection of "V"s! Since I'm an astronomy "buff", I fell for the VLA...
