Sundae is Funday

This past Sunday, August 22nd here in Rio Rancho, was the annual event called, "The Mayor's Sundae is Funday". There are booths of vendors and non-profits organizations, live music playing, and old car show, local high school cheerleaders showing off their routines, you know the whole nine yards of a local city (a small city) event. I think this year was the second or third annual event? I'm not sure, but something like that.

The kids enjoyed this giant inflated slide. If it wasn't so hot that day, I might have gone over to see if there was an age limit as to who could go down the slide and perhaps taken a ride down to relive my childhood days.

I will tell you that the reason the kids stuck around in the heat is that later in the afternoon, there was a giant, 100 foot ice cream Sundae served with all the toppings. But, that really wasn't the main highlight. It was just a part of it.  The main highlight was that our Mayor, Tom Swisstack, got himself into one of those plastic kiddie swimming pools and the kids got to dump scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, candy toppings, fudge, caramel syrup, the works, really, on the Mayor! He was such a good sport and the kids just kept on giggling every time they piled some other concoction on him. What a giant, sticky mess it was! I wasn't there to witness it, but after all of that, the city firefighters had the pleasure of hosing him down! Lots of laughs and giggles. You can view a video of this Sundae creation here.

And, this zen like image is of a lotus seed head not fully ripened in a vase in my patio. For me, a natural object d'art!

That big slide does look fun to me, too! And the lotus seed head and pot create a shadow shot for the day! Hope you have a fun weekend, Paula! Enjoy!

Sounds like great fun...and your mayor sounds like a really good sport.

Lovely vase, and the lotus seed head is so odd and mysterious--I'd have had no idea what it was.

Hey, when our kids were little we seemed so prissy about the sticky melted ice cream that dribbled everywhere. We feigned irritation of the spill yet secretly we missed the messy ice cream fun and messes of our youth. The mayor surely reverted to the messy fun days of his youth - hopefully there was a dunk tank for the mayor to clean up the goo afterward...

Love that giant slide - I would be very tempted to have a go on that! The lotus pod is gorgeous - such a strange looking plant for such a lovely flower! It makes good shadows however!

Your shadow shot is simply lovely! And that does sound like a fun day out. Your Mayor must be a really good sport to endure all of that sticky mess being piled up on him! I don't think my local Mayor would do that. My Mayor is a boring stick in the mud type ;D
