"Touched" By Shadows

Walking down my hallway the other morning, I am stopped in my tracks with this sight. It is a shadow cast by a Norfolk Pine tree that I have in a planter in my house and one of those glass balls that you use to deliver water to the plant so that you don't over or under water it.

I thought, "Wow, this is really cool!" I run back down the hallway to retrieve the camera. Too good to pass up!

The sun doesn't usually hit this part of the hallway in the morning like this. And, yes, the color of my hallway walls are indeed an orangey kind of color. But the sun in the hallway in my house (the way it is oriented) has to do with the time of year and the cycles that that sun travels across the sky in. Prior to this year, the sun hit a different part of the hallway at this time of the year. Next year, it will be in a different position and I don't think it will catch this tree and planter in this manner.

Timing. It's all about timing. And, it's also about keeping your eyes open to see it; not letting yourself get too distracted to not notice these things. I know with the constant running list of 'to do's in my mind, it would've been far too easy to have not noticed this display of light and shadow.

Here's more of a 'standing farther back' shot of the subject:

Oh! I am thrilled to announce that an article about the artwork I did last year on Damien (St. Damien) appeared in the local paper (The Molokai Dispatch) at home on Molokai.

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

The pine seems to extend its 'hand' to the device. It may be as if the evergreen wants to turn on the spigot more, to quench its slight thirst as the sun gets closer and closer. The colors of the wall is lovely, I see the beauty of the sun in two distinct orbs on the wall. A wonderful capture!

Good deal with the article!!! I love Norfolk pines. When I moved to Florida, my 4 foot pine went with me, however, it loved Florida so much it was too big to haul back home, so we planted at my mom's home...it's 15 ft. tall now and dearly loves Florida...me too, I'm ready to move back!!!

Have a sunny weekend...ours is about to end with rain...better'n snow!!!
