Best Fishes

I have a lot of wind chimes hanging everywhere in my yard.

These don't often catch the wind even when it's howling outside I think because they are kind of sheltered by the tree that it hangs from and that it is so close to our wall. I go by the philosophy that you can NEVER have too many wind chimes in your yard! They are everywhere and every kind imaginable. It makes the wind bearable when it is howling outside (and it does so with great ferocity during the vernal equinox). I hear the little metal chimes, the bamboo ones, the ones that have a deep, temple ring, the little brass bells...it all makes me happy.

There's a saying that I love and I forget who wrote it: "in the midst of winter I saw that there was a summer within me". Well, it's not the exact quote, but that is the gist of it. For me, it has more than one meaning. Like the year that my mom and and father in law died within two months of each other. 'Winter' seemed to hang heavy for so long. But, these words gave me the courage to move on.

And, it is the bare branches of winter that give these fish the feeling that they are indeed swimming through the warm skies of summer. Melting every last ice crystal around.

Do go on over to Traci's place at Hey Harriet to see what others have found in their Shadow Shot Sunday quest.

Beautiful shadow shot! It's always comforting to have beautiful words to lighten the dark times in our lives. I depend on them a lot when I'm down, for whatever reason. Thanks for sharing! Happy SSS!

What sweet little fishy shadows. That's a lovely shot. I very much like that saying. Glad to hear that it helped you through a horrible period in your life. Simple words are so much more powerful than we often realise.

Beautiful shot..I love wind chimes and have them around..My favorites are made with glass. Notice how you can't find them anymore? I took a glass cutter/dental tape/glue and piece of wood. Made my own..painted flowers on them..I have to work at them, they are a little rough. But they sound so nice..Happy SSS..

I'm with ya on the chimes, winter and summer, gotta have 'em, but sometimes I have to drop them to the ground as the winds whip them into frenzy. I'm trying to find the old Chinese glass chimes, I LOVE their sound.

Neat shot!

I have, hanging on my bedroom wall,a Mexican tin thingy - with a clear glass door. You put something in it. I don't know what it's called. :) But what I have inside is a white fish that fell from the windchime that hung from the tree next to my father's grave. It had broken, fallen off onto his grave & I picked it up & kept it. The next year, a huge storm came through and tore many limbs from that tree, and, of course, the rest of the chimes were gone. I am so glad to have that litle fish. Love this post, and the memories it stirred.

What a nifty shot. I love the idea of those fish swimming through the air (sort of). I love what you wrote too.

Great shot!

I often think about birds flying through water and fish swimmming through the air...the two mediums feel very interchangeable to me.
