Up, Up and Away!

(all images in this post taken by Jessica Saienni)

When you go for a ride in a hot air balloon, some of the passengers are asked to help-that's my son in the foreground.

Early morning sun=really cool shadows.

This shot is shortly after liftoff-somewhere near Coors Blvd and Montano in Albuquerque

Truth be told, I have a strange combination of fear of heights in wide open spaces. The thought of getting into a hot air balloon and ascending up into the sky with the earth below opening up below me is terrifying. Being up in an airplane, I am fine as I am not exposed to the wide open space. On a ski lift chair coming down a mountain puts me in to a near panic mode. I'm OK going up on a ski lift chair though. But a hot air balloon? Forget it! I simply can't do it. Trams sometimes get me too even though I am in an enclosed space, I can see how far the earth is from my feet. Hard to explain. Not logical, I know, but there you go.

However, today my son, John and his girlfriend, Jessica, celebrated one year of being together. She planned this whole trip out and kept it a secret from him. Fortunately, the weather was perfect and the ride was epic. They could see everywhere for probably at least 70 miles in any direction. These images are the ones she took on their early morning flight. Needless to say, they had a great day celebrating the occasion.

Join us as a group of us (yes-there are many of us!) from around the world post our shadow shots over at Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

ABQ looks so cool viewed from the balloon! It is a wonderful surprise gift for your son and you got some great aerial shadows while being safely on the ground :)

At first I thought it was Peter Fonda's motorcycle.

Wonderful shadows! Riding n a hot air balloon is not for me, though, I'm a scaredy cat! (Just like you!)

I don't think your fear is unusual. If I remember correctly, fear of falling is something innate. I love viewing hot air balloons, but I have never wanted to ride in one.
