Custom Blend Lipstick (DIY)

Call me frugal if you like, I won't mind! I came up with a way to get more from my lipsticks after hanging onto ones that were down to their nubs, so to speak. I couldn't get myself to toss them knowing that there was still some goodness down below the cartridge line.

So, I decided to scrape out the remaining lipstick from each one into a small jar and put it on a warming unit (be it a candle warmer or the plate on your coffee maker) to let it melt. It doesn't matter if you're mixing colors since the range of colors you probably wear is bound to make for a good color mix. I used a popsicle stick-the kind you get in a big package from the craft store-to mix the lipstick together once it is melted. A disposable chopstick would work well too.

Just about melted in the image above-be careful as it is very hot and you can burn yourself if you come in contact with the molten lipstick!

As you can see, the lipsticks I merged in this batch are all different shades, but analogous nonetheless, so the end result works.

Vuela! All set to go, and now I have a custom blend of lipstick. As you can see, there is a lot of waste in tossing out those lipsticks that are down to the 'nub'. You can apply this with your finger or a lipstick brush (I prefer the latter as you get better coverage with it).
