Painterly Morning Shadows

© Paula Scott Molokai Girl Studio

Glancing out on the patio of a friend's house, I notice how her rattan table cast a very patterned shadow on the ground. As a shadow catcher (or, hoarder might be more accurate), it indeed got captured! A subsequent treatment in a post editing filter renders it like a painting. I rather like the outcome.

Outcome. That word alone can drive us to over-obsessing on what might not be realistic-although we may not know it at the time. I will say that, generally speaking, my approach to art and being creative is that I don't necessarily have a firm notion of the outcome. I usually have a notion of the possibility of an outcome, but I let the process and the art be directed by something that isn't a part of my conscious mind. I think the more specific we are in our expectations of an outcome, the more likely we are to be disappointed. I tend to lean towards having my expectations be kind of vague and non-specific. You know, as John Lennon would say, "whisper words of wisdom: let it be."

So, I practice daily the art of letting go and letting it be. It's a work in progress, for sure.

In the meantime, join us as a group of us (yes-there are many of us!) from around the world post our shadow shots over at Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

It looks like an Impressionist's watercolor, the painting that looks almost real but with a dreamy texture that nicely muddles the scene wit soft pastels.

As for how real it looks. As for myself viewing the work art, I'd prefer to let reality slide to just enjoy the view. For the artists we know, specificity is not the goal, interpreting their subjects in their eyes is where they go. As a viewer of art, I enjoy it that way...

Hello my Molokai Girl,

Sorry for my unpunctuality. It really kills me not there in time.

I have so much enjoyment nowadays and I guess, it's priceless.

Hope you are in the best of everything while the sunshine shone on you.

Hugs,
