The Dance

"Swinging Through Life" © Paula Scott Molokai Girl Studio

"Sit beside me in long moments of shared solitude,
knowing both our absolute aloneness and our undeniable belonging.
Dance with me in the silence and in the sound of small daily words,
holding neither against me at the end of the day.

And when the sound of all the declarations of our sincerest
intentions has died away on the wind,
dance with me in the infinite pause before the next great inhale
of the breath that is breathing us all into being,
not filling the emptiness from the outside or from within.

Don't say, "Yes!"
Just take my hand and dance with me."

∼Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It's a great book that Oriah Mountain Dreamer wrote called, "The Dance"-moving to the rhythms of your soul. On the cover of the book is this quote: "What if the question is not why am I so infrequently the person I really want to be, but why do I so infrequently want to be the person I really am?".

That question has to resonate with most of us. Which makes me wonder why we run from being authentic and why we feel squeamish when someone is? I have no answers but welcome your conjectures! It does make you think, though...

Come join us every week, as a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

I love the dance of life.

We seem loathe to dance, to relax and throw our troubles off us as we swing too and fro as we take that next great inhale...

As for authenticity, we wish that we could be as authentic as we really are instead of inferring that others will judge us harshly. Instead, we may veer toward the phony and inauthentic in response..we ought to be true to ourselves. Great post!

This is a lovely review of a book about dance of life. We sway our lives to our own tunes. Great job.

Authenticity is often not welcomed in our world, where many feel compelled to (as it used to be said) "put on airs."

We are gregarious animals but want to be unique, individuals. We want to be loved, acknowledged.
Every individual has a 'limit' whose game to play and which tribe to belong...
Happy Monday!

I concur with the comments of BLOGtise and added to that, there is no reflection of oneself as a authentic being in the world - so from a young age one is conditioned and trained to acquire the masks to hide the vulnerability and also of course to manipulate others to give you the outcome you desire :D. We are always light and shadow - without that there can be no dance! So maybe it is to make peace with the shadow! love your work and thoughts
