Imagine Illuminated Irregular Irises

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our ELEVENTH round with 'Captain Roger' at the helm! Some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "I".

IZZY

Meet Izzy the kitten. My son brought him home almost two months ago. It was a stray and was barely three weeks old. Smart little guy he is, though, and very personable. He makes me laugh a lot with his antics. He was named after Izzy (Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, aka "Iz"), the Hawaiian musician that passed away in 1997. Iz is famous for his rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

INSTALLATION ART

Installation art is art that is created to be site specific. The installation can be contemporary of permanent. These giant pinwheels are ones that I created when I took art 3D at UNM. It was the last project of the semester and I believe that it only got to stay up one day so that it could critiqued by my fellow classmates. The building behind it is called Scholes Hall and it where the President of the University along with all the upper echelons of management have their offices. I wanted my installation to be something whimsical. These pinwheels are 4 feet in height.

Idler Wheel

(image from Your Dictionary)

Idler wheel is a gear that is in the middle of two other gears so that those gears (the outer ones) rotate in the same direction. Wikipedia describes it better than I can: "An idler-wheel drive is a system used to transmit the rotation of the main shaft of a motor to another rotating device, for example the platter of a record-reproducing turntable or the crankshaft-to-camshaft gear train of an automobile."

It's always pure pleasure to visit your posts. I always learn a new word or concept.
4 foot high pinwheels is definitely pure whimsy.
Too bad it could only stay up for a day.

Paula, nicely done. I do love installations... a friend once did a series in the woods in Ithaca, NY. You walked a trail and found surprises along the way! Thanks for bringing back a great memory. Also, Iz rocks, and I loved Iz's version of "Rainbow," too. Peace, Amy
