Solar Eclipse Annular Shadows

Talk about being in the right place at the right time-we got to witness the solar eclipse on Sunday with unobstructed views and clear skies! My friend used one of his photo filters for viewing and taking pictures (we didn't have fancy equipment)-he used a #88 filter and it was perfect!

I did post more about the eclipse in a previous post (you can see my sun shots there).

What was unexpected, though, as we were ooohing and aaaahing when it hit the annular phase (the ring of fire) was when my husband shouted out, 'look at all the circles on the wall here!' We did not realized what strange shadows would be cast from the eclipse.

Pretty cool stuff, huh?

Here's the rest of the wall.

It's when I saw all these shadows that I went shutter crazy! I've just posted what I think is a good representation.

This is also Memorial Day Weekend, so I thought it befitting to post some images from our Memorial Day Parade here in Rio Rancho:

I believe that is called the color guard parading down Southern Blvd. with the flag.

Honestly, I feel so doggone guilty sometimes because most of our days here in New Mexico are ridiculously sunny and full of wonderful shadows all day long. I say this because I know many of you don't live where cloudy days on end are considered highly unusual.

I will be away from computer access this weekend-I'll be lucky enough to link up with my fellow SSS'rs, but please do leave a comment and I will get to visiting you back on Monday.

"Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see." (Martin Luther King)

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2011 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

The wall looks like it was painted in southwest colors with a sponge, one dab at a time culminating in a work of natural art - posted in an outdoor gallery...

Ah, Rio Rancho in particular and NM in general, is beautiful. You need not apologize for your glorious climate - sun can be beautiful, you are allowed to bask in its warm glow!

Happy Memorial Day as we never the sacrifice others made to live in a wonderful and free country!
