Waltzing Through The Shadows

An early fall afternoon with the golden afternoon sun on a Sunday afternoon in Balboa Park, San Diego...

The reason for the trip last month was sad (my mother in law's funeral), but getting to San Diego for us as a family is a rare thing. We did get ourselves over to Balboa Park to enjoy the wonderful architecture and gardens. And, as you can see, we are never without shadows that delight. I thought these were particularly scrumptious. I feel like I could just close my eyes and picture myself wearing a long, slender, black evening gown as I do slow, luxurious, waltzing turns down through these shadowy arches. And the music? One of my most favorite waltz pieces is the "Appalachia Waltz" written and performed by Mark O'Connor, along with Yo Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer. My most all time favorite trio in the world.

So, close your eyes. Join me in a waltz through these arches to this incredibly beautiful music:

"Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see." (Martin Luther King)

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse waltz on over and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

Sad to hear about MIL.

Hope everyone take it cool. Cheerish the moment with time w/ MIL is the only medicine of longing we can get.

REally crips shadows! Still warm and sunny overthere?

Happy TS...

Funerals are never fun, the sadness can be overwhelming. However, God shares too in the grief, and provides some solace by providing his beauty in the sun, shadow and music. The solace of the simple and not amplified stringed music allows us to reflect on its beautiful sounds. We cannot forget our heritage, but can focus on nice things to forget, if only briefly...

As soon as we saw the title, then the shadows, we too imagined a lovely waltz! This song (and the rest of the album) is on our ipod at the store right now - our favorite fall music!
So sorry to hear of your loss as well Paula - you and the rest of the family have our prayers!

I'm very sorry you had to go to San Diego for such a sad reason, Paula. A visit to Balboa Park would be bittersweet under the circumstances. I've always loved San Diego, and no matter how much traveling we do, we speak of it as one of our favorite cities.
Your shadow shot for this weekend is exquisite! Thank you for sharing it with us.

At the moment we are engrossed in Strctly Come Dancing (Dancing with the Stars) so I immediately wanted to dance with you!! It may have been a sad reason for you to be there, but you have found a moment of joy.

Peaceful, lovely ShadowShot. I had never heard of Mark O'Connor until now. I have always loved Yo-You Ma's cello though. It's a wonderful piece indeed. There is something sad in it...or maybe it's just my mood today. Anyway, have a great weekend.

I'm glad you found these wondrous shadows to help ease the sadness of the trip to San Diego.

SHADOW, SHADOW

Shadow, shadow drawing near,
You are all alone, I fear;
Let me be your new-found friend—
I’ll stick with you to the end!

OMgosh! I said earlier I'd never heard of Mark O'Connor, but just realized that I DO know who he is. I love Nancy Griffith and he played fiddle on one of her albums!! Yes. Oh, this is me, Cassie, just to lazy to log off my dog's blog. ;0) Have a great rest of the week.
