Lost In Translation

(window and bench in our guest bedroom with shadows cast
from wrought iron that is covered with bamboo fencing material)

You know, I call this image, "Lost in Translation" because I think it's a bit tricky to decipher what the heck the subject matter is that is causing the shadows. So, imagine, if you will, a window in a bedroom. Out side of the window is wrought iron (to keep intruders from breaking in). Because the window faces directly east and gets many hours of the morning sun blasting in to the room, we covered the wrought iron with a simple bamboo fencing material. Makes for a crazy shadow, doesn't it?

I call our cat, Rocky, a Bedouin cat or a gypsy cat because he has favorite sleeping places-he sleeps in the same place for about a week or two and then moves on to another spot. The bench in this window is one of his favorite spots. He enjoys the morning sun in complete comfort and peace. Hmmmm...we should follow suit, I think, and slow down in this manner. Why are we always in a hurry and have big piles of things to do?

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

There is a neat quality to this shadow - it is orderly in the angular sense, interspersed with the magic of wrought iron arcs. Not geometric in total, but a modern artist's interpretative work. Neat!

Rocky knows that a place of supreme comfort is the place to rest and perhaps nap. Our Linus takes careful stock of his surroundings, and chooses the most comfortable place to waste away the day. Comfort counts to a cat!

Amazing shadow, Paula. Yes, hard to guess the origin without the explanation. I can sure relate to Rocky, though. A window seat is a great thing to have, and our dog Lindy would readily agree.

Excellent ShadowShot! Thanks for the "translation". hehe. I'm all for getting rid of those big, old lists of piles of things to do too. Rip 'em up baby!!

Now that you've explained it, I can see all the elements that make up the shadows. But it works just fine without an explanation too!

SHADOW PLAY

Shadows like horses, shadow likes chicks,
Shadows like houses built with red bricks;

Shadows much taller than a high wall—
No matter their shape, I love them all!

A very interesting shadow shot - I can picture this as a repeat pattern on fabric!

I always love your shadow shots, Paula, and this one is delightful as always. I haven't had a cat in sometime, but Rocky sounds very much like the last one that I had. I've talked to Sam Schnauzer about getting him a feline friend -- I won't tell you exactly what his expression told me, but I decided it wasn't a very good idea! Hope you both have a great weekend!

Rocky's got the right attitude :) Love that Bamboo fencing along the ironwork - clever Paula! Makes for a really cool shadow - as well as a place for a siesta! Enjoy your weekend!

Your cat and me should get together and go bowling. I like to sleep in other places and it seems like I am doing it every week or so as well!
I love places like this that appear. As the sun moves across the horizon, the shadows change and places like this might disappear.
It is a great shot. Thanks for the description too, as now I can see the fence, even though you can't really see the fence. Very cool.

Peace

agreed dear paula...we need to slow down. we need to enjoy our moments and laugh at those big piles. chip away at the pile...it will eventually go away.

Thanks for the explanation of that great shot. I really like getting up early in the morning to see the sharp angle shadows. They exhibit such an interesting perspective.

This is a complex and rich picture, need the explanation :)
A good question why do we have too much to do...
That's why I had a long blogging break - when time is limited it's time to give up something to get more time... :)
