Dia de Bloglandia Post #1

My Mother and Her Brother

I have no idea as to the year this photo was taken. All I know is that it is my mother and her brother doing some sort of farm work at their home in Ashley, Illinois. I wish I had a better image than this-it is a laser copy of a photograph and I've scanned it and tired to redeem some of it-but, it is no better than mediocre.

Yesterday (Oct. 1) marked the 14th anniversary of my mother's passing. I don't know which uncle is pictured here with her. Perhaps it's my Uncle Bob (Robert) who died in WWII in Europe. My mother was very close to him and it left such a gap in her heart. I know that they are together now with the rest of those whom have passed.

Every Sunday, throughout the month of October, a group of us join together in the art of remembering-all leading up to the Dia de Los Muertos in November-aka All Souls Day. Our hosts, Rebecca and Stephanie lead us graciously on this journey. Won't you join us? Joining can be as simple as visiting all the links posted on their blogs of those who participate. Share with us the beauty of remembering.

As Rebecca had written (I've taken an exerpt from her poem):

"treasure all those
who have graced our lives with their own courage and verve.
to reaffirm the promise to live life fully,
straight from our hearts, boldly, with great unending passion,
one full day at a time."

You should buy and use AdobePhotoshop for your old photographs. Works like a charm. All I have to do is click on "Auto-Contrast" or "Auto-Color" and it enhances my pictures.

I am envious that you have any old photographs of your parents at all. In our tortured family history (too long to go into here), most of the photographs were destroyed.

@gighawaii I do have CS5 and took it through the paces-it's just that it's not a good laser copy to being with, so there isn't much I can do unless I get a better scan to work with! I usually can work wonders with restoration, but this was a bad image to start off with.
@MMT: wow-to not have any images of family is terribly sad. I do treasure the ones I have!

What a terrific photograph of your mom and uncle together on the family farm! Photographs of daily life such of this one are so interesting, aren't they? They speak volumes more than a straightforward portrait.

How ethereal the photo is of your mom and her brother. We never really stop grieving for our loved ones; the forms just change. Love your art work, too.

Thanks for visiting Sacred Ordinary, Paula, but I realized I hadn't published today's entry. You saw yesterday's, I think.

I posted my Los Dias article from the road and didn't get much time for visiting others until this morning. I love your old photo and the memories you share. I often look at the old stuff from the years before i was even born. I got the photos when my mother passed in 2010 and scanned over 200 of them. Great to have these memories. Very nice.

Peace

I love the fact that you shared this with us. I really, really like to view old family photos. The 'grainy' gives it such character and charm of family which it should!!
