Lobster: Trapped!!!

No lobster would want to be caught between two traps like this!
At least, not if they can help it.

Although this one is 'trapped', I think he has 'no worries'
as to ending up on someone's dinner plate!

I was at Sea Port Village in San Diego last weekend and had time to stroll around unhurriedly. There was a pier that had stacks and stacks of lobster traps-lobster season begins early October and ends in early March according to the California Fish and Game website. The white 'orb' you see is the buoy that was inside of each cage-which becomes the floating marker once they lower it into the waters.

Fun shadow shots - I'm rather partial to lobster!

I wouldn't even think of imbibing a cloth covered lobster...East coast lobsters are in season, although the yield is greater further up in Maine and New Brunswick. I imagine the CA lobsters are not the size of those up here, but fresh are quite delicious.

The lobster trap is a disarmingly simple device that works quite well. SD must be beautiful, the Pacific breezes wafting over the pier cool and delightful! Nice shots!

The traps provided some great shadows for you to photograph.

The stuffed lobster looks pretty happy. He knows he won't end up on someone's dinner plate.

Enjoy the weekend!

Ahhhh CA lobster season...I remember well. Seems like a hundred years ago that a (sassy?)skinny SCUBA Cassie would go lobstering! Wonderful ShadowShots. Happy SSS.

Lobster sounds good. So expensive though! Something about seeing the shore being readied for the season.
Hope the trip is going okay, or if you are home, that it went well.
Peace to you and yours

Pity the poor lobster, but kudos to the photographer!

MY SHADOWY FRIEND

My shadow and I are very best friends;
We walk hand in hand, though the sidewalk ends.

No matter the time of day or of night,
My shadow and I will always stick tight.

We don’t even think of drifting apart,
For shadow and I are one soul and one heart.

To have such a friend is heaven, you see,
For I love my shadow, and shadow loves me.

These may be vicious killer traps for the lobsters, but for us they give a beautiful shadow shot. At first I did not know what they were because I have never seen a lobster trap....but now I know...and if I were a lobster I would want to stay far, far away. Lovely shadows in these captures. genie

Paula...I wanted to write you back with this little post script. We were at Back Bay on the Wednesday AFTER Irene hit Virginia Beach with a wallop on Saturday. We could not get into our rental home until Tuesday night. We went to Back Bay 3 times trying to see the water fowl we had seen so much of in past years, but I think they were still in hiding. The spiders were out in all of their glory, but the herons and other water fowl were hard to come by. It was such a disappointment. Guess we will have to wait until next year. The part of the area over to the right of the parking lot was totally closed to the public. genie
