ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our NINTH round! Some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "J".
Japanese Maple
(in my backyard)
Acer palmatum, called Japanese Maple or Smooth Japanese Maple (Japanese: irohamomiji, イロハモミジ, or momiji, 紅葉) is a species of woody plant native to Japan, North Korea, South Korea, China, eastern Mongolia, and southeast Russia.[2]
This one lives in my backyard and I am quite pleased with it.
Jacket
Fall is just about here and it's time to pull those jackets out. Wearing a jacket seemed unimaginable just 4 weeks ago!
As to the phrase, "Jumping Jehoshaphat", it has quite an interesting origin-none of which can be proved, but the renditions of it are quite similar to one another, so there must be a good part of truth to it (does that make sense?). Click through to get more details on Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat (and the spelling of his name does vary) was the 4th king of the Kingdom of Judah. The Yahoo answer forum has several versions as to how the phrase was coined. You can take it or leave it as to whether or not they are accurate!
JUMPIN' JACK
Jumpin' Jack-not literally though. In just a few weeks, we will see more of these jack-o-lanterns appearing. It is hard to believe that the year is on the home stretch. Fall is my favorite time of the year. I saw this Jack while waiting in line at the cashier in Hobby Lobby. These are carvable fake pumpkins.

I'd love the Jacket for fall or winter!!
I love Japanese Maples - used to have one in my front yard in my home in Connecticut. I miss that home and that tree.

Great choices for the letter J.

ABC Wed
My mother used to say "Jumpin' Jehosaphat!" when I was young. She also used to say "Horsefeathers!" The kids in my neighborhood liked to hear Mom cuss.
Very interesting post, Paula. The artificial carvable pumpkin sounds like a good idea. My youngest brother carves fabulous pumpkins, but then they get mushy and ooey and gooey, and all that.

Fake pumpkins, what is the world coming to;-) I changed into my autumn jacket then it got warmer.
I really like how you've framed these photos. Fun post!
Fall is also my favourite season, one reason of which is that it's my birthday the first week of October. It is always sunny on that day! Love the jack-o-lantern and your jacket! Have a great week, Paula!

love these photos and wow for the title - love unusual words
Ah, I love this J post. A summer lover, I'm not anxious for cool weather followed by icy cold, but it'll come anyway, I fear. :) Interesting pumpkin - I doubt one could roast its seeds...no mess, though.
Fun J post. That jacket is pretty fashion forward if you ask me.
Nice collection of js

Good J words! Great photos too. The one with the Japanese maple looks like a painting.
Thanks for your visit and comment. I've just heard that the execution of the alleged murderer of a policeman in the eighties took place yesterday. How appalling. Capital penalty is so final. I am glad that we have no death penalty here in the Netherlands.
