Do You Know The Way To Santa Fe ? (part deux)

(oh, darn, now I have Dionne Warwick's voice singing this song in my head-except I've swapped the words, "San Jose" with "Santa Fe")

Ye Old Santa Fe Building

Yes, as promised, a continuation from last weeks post in regards to an early morning opportunity to capture images of a sleepy Santa Fe  for my Shadow Shot Sunday friends!

CORN MAIDEN

Potted plants for the sake of creating a decorative barrier to keep unwanted vehicles out of the Santa Fe plaza area. It was the weekend before Spanish Market, so the town was 'bracing' itself for the deluge of tourists and art collectors. I overheard an employee in a restaurant commenting to a friend that they were considering quitting their job there or running away just so that he could avoid the mobs of people that descend on the town for the weekend.

As you can probably tell, this planter had some corn growing in it. The shadow reminds me of a corn maiden...

Mystery Shadow...

It is a shadow cast by a sculpture, for sure. Perhaps you can guess what the sculpture is of?
In  posting this picture, I just now noticed the wonderful cracks (or, more like rifts) in the sidewalk. Would've made for great images in themselves. Maybe next time.

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

Santa Fe is beautiful, the southwest adobe style so different than old New England, full of wood and brick. It looks nice up here, but that building is lively in adobe and tile.

The planters are at least stylish as they keep the crowds under a modicum of control. I's thing the proprietors would welcome the crowds and commerce - but too much of anything can be a but annoying...

The last shadow allows my imagination to work out a bit. In shadow, I see the form of a bird carrying a giant twig in its beak, perhaps in its making a giant nest. Shadows are cool like that, we may be right or wrong as to what it may be. But the fun is in the speculating!

Somewhere I would love to visit one day - beautiful shadow shots and I have no idea what the sculpture is of!

I'll just be content with the mystery of the last shadow! :-)

IF SHADOWS

If shadows could jump,
How high would they go?
As high as the moon?
Does anyone know?

If shadows could weep,
How long would they cry?
As long as it takes
To climb to the sky?

If shadows could laugh
And tell funny jokes
Would you take them home
And say, “Get this, folks!”?

If shadows could wed,
Would they prefer you
Or somebody else
To promise, “I do”?

These are great! I can't figure out what the last one is though. A shadow cast from a crazy big monster sculpture? No? Hmmm...well I give in then! :)

All great shots, Paula. I have no idea what that last one is. But I do like the cracks in the sidewalk. Sometimes, the main focus of a shadow is there, but it is the subtle 'hidden' shadows that I see when I look deep into the piece for each crack makes a shadow as well. I love Santa Fe. Can't wait for September in New Mexico.

Peace.

The shadows on the building are very cool.
I'd love to visit the Southwest someday..it must be beautiful. Thanks for sharing a bit of Santa Fe with us.

Now I have Dionne's song in my head as well!

As for the mystery photo, I see antlers of a deer or an elk..but I'm sure that's not what it is.

Love the treatment of your photos. Very artistic.

Great shadows, too. I think the last one may be someone using a hoe?
