Shadow Collage

Have fork, will eat!!

Sitting out in our patio the other week enjoying supper and conversation with my husband when I stop mid sentence, mutter something about, "I'll be right back..." and ducked into the house to grab the nearest camera (cell phone again). I think he's used to it by now and knows that this is the norm. He doesn't, however go out of his way to point out shadows that I should photograph. Perhaps because I usually spot them before he does.
This is the time of year that we do enjoy having our meals out in our patio which is screened in (no bugs). But, in the past week, every evening has met us with a thick blanket of smoke and ash from the Wallow wildfire out in AZ. The sun has been so red in the late afternoon and evenings that everyone has been photographing it trying to capture the red that it is. I even did a video of the effect.

And this one is a successful photo that I took (it was tricky
trying  to get the camera to see what the naked eye could see):

It wasn't sunset yet-the sun still had about an hour or so to go before dipping past the horizon. The sky is darkened by the smoke. We must be on Mars. Very, very eerie....

And, back to the topic of shadows, we have the
Windows to my soul...

I probably have posted all of the above before, but not all at once like this. These are all window shots...I am quite fond of these.

And, don't forget about our on line charity auction!!! You only have until the 12th 6 p.m. PDT to get your bid in for one of the unique and fabulous shrines!! 28 artists have poured their hearts into this project in order to help the street children in Oaxaca. You too can be a part of that equation.

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

As a SSS participant, please post your shadow shots over at the Flickr SSS Group Room! It would be nice to create a large 'album' of our images.

Eat what? Shadows? Yummy!

SHADOWY DINNER

A shadow, a shadow, a shadow you say?
A shadow is coming to dinner today?

Oh, what shall we feed it, and what will it eat?
Just toss down a few rays of light at its feet,

And watch its dark mouth gobble up every ray,
But be sure, my friend, you don’t get in its way;

Keep out of the light so it won’t gobble you.
(If I were the hostess, that’s just what I’d do.)

A shadow is easy to feed, so they say,
So welcome your shadow to dinner today.

Shadows here and there

I've heard that the more polluted the air the more beautiful the sunset. I'm saying WOW at what you've captured with that red sun. I'm really really liking the fork shadows and the curtains too. those are fabulous shots. happy SSS.

I do hope the fire doesn't get any closer to you! Fantastic shadow shots for the day -- as always! And you do have a great sense of humor, I love it! Hope you have a lovely weekend. Stay safe!

Table settings can be formal and stiff in a mannerly world. Happily, whimsical shadows exist here, each tine creating a work of art. So cool!

Not so cool is the red moon - the result of a fire that is full of destructive fury. We wish for no wind and cooling rains to cool off its flames. Prayers are offered, and hope to a less active fire to stay contained where it is and stays out of NM...

I really like the shadows the flatware created on the table!

News of the Arizona wild fires have made it to Canada so they must be horrific!

I love that shot of the subdued sun, but am not happy about why it is so stark. Hope the fires get under control soon, but it looks like Mother Nature is in charge of that.
I love the window shots as well. These would make a great scattered collage on Picnic, (I've been experimenting).

Take care and be well.

Peace

Gorgeous, Paula, all of them, each in their own way.
My husband (who has become a much better photographer than I am since my eye surgeries) looks for shadow shots all the time now. I've even started referring to "our blog" every now and then. LOL

The photos of the fork, lovely. I didn't think twice about what was about to be served.

The sunset, beautiful, and yet the reason for it so tragic. Isn't that just like life? Loveliness and pain, hand in hand... Amy

I love the first collage. Your words make it even better!
My friends daughters are working at a ranch this summer not far from the fires. They are from Phoenix and are just over the border into NM.

Love those fork shadows! Well spotted there! That second photo is eerie looking. At least such an event presents some wonderful photo opportunities :)

I hope your new week is off to a good start!
