Soul Cage

Don't you just love the sound of that? I find it intriguing. I mean, the whole concept of having your soul held captive in a cage. For me, there is also a paradox that I see in the cage being so beautiful and with holes in it as though your soul could escape. I also find this lamp glass work done by R. Jason Howard to be absolutely exquisite!

That's the name of this piece. It was in an art gallery in Jerome, AZ called, Pura Vida. I love this gallery!

If you are ever near the Phoenix/Sedona/Flagstaff area, make it a point to go to the town of Jerome. Get there early as parking is a pain in the you know what. It's an old mining town that sits on top of a hill. Plan to spend a good part of a day there and wear comfortable shoes. This is not a handicap accessible town and it is probably impossible for them to make it so, since it was built all along the steep hills of the mountain. Have lunch at the Flat Iron Grill or Quince's. No regrets, either way!

I hope you do visit the link for R. Jason Howard that I provided. My cell phone photo does not do his work justice! For the record, I did ask permission to take the photo. I found myself muttering something about the shadow...wondering if I made any sense at all.

The scaly glass lamp offers such a neat style with texture. The shadow is so cool, as it could represent an artistic iteration of many things: a rocket lifting off the launch pad with the ball of flame below. Or an modernist Eiffel Tower. The beauty and imagination work very well together!

"Soul Cage" is indeed evocative. Soul in and out of its "room." Flows out to catch some of the world; flows back to safety to think about lessons learned. If I ever get that far West again, I will make it a point to journey to Jerome! Amy

I'm doing April Poem A Day, and here's my first:

The soul cage is indeed intriguing, more so because of its shadow.

That is a beautiful piece of art! I so wish I could visit that gallery and explore the surrounding area! Thankfully I don't have any mobility issues so I'm up for the challenge. It's unfortunate that so many interesting areas around the globe are not accessible for everyone though. Hope you're having an awesome weekend!

That is an exquisite piece. That is some beautiful glass work art. And you did just get the shadow, at least that's what you posted, and that's a great shot.
I've driven through Jerome so many times and never stopped, (too crowded, nowhere to park, tourist trap etc etc). We stopped last time through and now it's a destination. I'll have to try Quinces, the Flatiron was great for breakfast with superb coffee!
Great SSS today!

Peace.

That is a beautiful piece of artwork, Paula. A caged-in soul is indeed an interesting concept. Mine used to be caged-in, but it's starting to bloom. (Late Bloomer Boomer)

;-)

I've not been bloggin' much lately; thanks for stopping by.

Wow! That is so beautiful! That imagery of a glass cage for your soul is breathtaking - you can see in and out, but you cannot escape!

We will be in Flagstaff for spring vacation - I will make a point of traveling to Jerome! Thanks for sharing!

A lovely piece of glasswork!

FRAGMENTS OF LIGHT

Since shadows are fragments of light,
Most gracefully they can take flight
And soar through the air
(They do this, I swear)
As though they were some sort of kite.

That is the coolest thing I've ever seen - how - that is what I'm asking does he do that? I had a good friend in college that blew glass & I'd go meet him to watch their class make the most lovely stuff...but this - this is so very cool!!
Our cracked eggs - well, they are hand blown & that's another mystery for me - I suppose once blown they somehow "crack" them? Again...I should have paid more attention at their glass blowing class :) oh if I only would have known!!
Take care Paula, have a great week!

Such a cool ShadowShot! I have had some of my most fun times in Jerome! We used to camp out on Mingus Mtn then head up to Jerome for shopping and sight seeing. There was a dress shop called Alfredo's Wife that had the best stuff...usually too expensive, but lots of fun to look at.

I watched the video of the shrine. I went to your art blog and didn't see a place to comment there. Was there? Or did i just miss it?
Anyway, the shrine is fabulous. I love her painted face, a bit different than the usual.
By the way, since I was watching YouTubes, I looked at a few of your others. I'm making a chile roaster, but with your method, I really don't have to, do I? I wonder if I have a "lick" of common snese??:-)
Anyway, just passing through.

Peace.
