Garden Shadows

My friend, Leighanna keeps a few spring mattresses in her garden. That's how she 'rusts' them and then she snips off the wire parts that she needs and makes art from it. Anyway, these series of shots are from her back yard/garden.

I love the criss cross patterns from the coils. Sure makes for unique shadows!

Even a garden hose can be elevated to a higher view point. Just another way to celebrate the mundane. Garden hoses certainly fall into the category of mundane. Still cause to celebrate, though, as where would we be without them? Back to hauling buckets of water, for sure.

There must be a name for this tool, but I don't think I've ever known it. Perhaps some of you out there will enlighten me! For now, I'm calling it a hand rake.

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

The coils are really artistic, the flow of wire is more eccentric in form, maybe a view looking down into a tornado. A fine artists' medium!

The garden hose offers possibilities in shadowy art. I hadn't thought of that!

I'll call the implement a rake (of sorts). The tine shadows looks like spider's legs. Of course you are not fond of arachnids...

What fun, terrific shadow shots from the garden! Always amazes me how such ordinary things can make such interesting and delightful shadows! And you're one of the best at finding those, Paula! Have a great weekend!

Keeping a few mattresses in the garden sounds very avant garde, and makes for fabulous shadows.

Hand rake sounds good to me! Those shadows found around the garden are awesome! Especially those mattress coils!

Hey thanks so much for the gardening tip. I've never heard of diatenaceous before but I'll certainly be looking to buy some this week. Ha! Take that you pesky grasshoppers! Your days are numbered. I hope... ;)

Hand cultivator. That's what I always called one of those. But it looks like a spider in the great shadow shot you have craeted.
The rusting bedspring is also a good shadow example.mNow I have learned something. People actually pre plan their art materials. They don't just go out and find something that can work. (I'm learning, but it's gonna take a while.)
Now, that mundane garden hose. It just goes to show you that everything will cast a shadow, it's catching it. The hose ceases to be mundane when we notice it and include it. In the case of theart nature makes, by the rays of the sun as paintbrushes, there are no boundaries and nothing is mundane.

Peace
