ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our seventh round-some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter. is, "X".
XANTHIC
Xanthic: yellow or yellowish in color.
XANTHOMELANOUS
Xanthomelanous: pertaining to races of men (and women) with an olive, brown, or yellow complexion. That would be me. Anyway, much handier to use myself as an example than a random person from a Google search that might not appreciate being posted on my blog! And, truth be told, I exaggerated the color shift on this to accentuate the yellow (not very flattering).
XANTHOPHYLL
Xanthophyll: a yellow crystalline pigment found in plants; it is related to carotene and is the basis of the yellow seen in autumn leaves. As evident with these aspens.
XANTHOPHANE
Xanophane: a yellow pigment of the retina. Rocky, our cat, has yellow eyes. Must be from the xanophane-although I'm not entirely sure if I have this right. This is about all the definition says! And, the images from a Google search are mostly of butterflies (which I don't understand if it's about the retina...).
Well, that was fun! I thought I wasn't going to have much to post by way of "X"!

You look nice in the photo. And so does your cat!

It IS fun when you get going on it, isn't it, Paula? Good post for X day.

You are a lovely yellow mellow person. I learn so much from your post today, I didn't know about all the yellow things.
Good shots. But no Donovan?

That pesky Google images, I think its run by steam it gives such unrelated results. It probably thought xanthopterine (a pigment obtained from butterflies)was near enough. You look a very mellow yellow.
Happy New Year.

One thought in two minds - highly respected X ;-)
Great choices for the letter "X." I now have another word to describe myself: Xanthomelanous! Thank you. :-) Happy New Year!
HEY HEY PAULA! Your skin looks like HAY! LOL Just kidding! Great shot and lots of good X words this week. Wishing you a very Happy New Year! :D
Easy for you to say. I don't think I can pronounce these "X" words! At least they are not X rated!(I don't think)
Yellow is one of my favorite colors. I especially like Yellow and Red together. And I am Mediteranian, full blood Italian, therefore olive or Xwhatever.
You are very easy to look at, by the way, enhanced yellow shading or not.
The best of the New Year to you and all you hold dear, every day of it.
Peace
You did an excellent job with the letter X. I enjoyed your photographs so much and I'm impressed with how many X words you were able to illustrate.
Ah ah, remembering Donovan. I wish my face was "basanée" but I am as white as a turnip :-))
Great blog, I like it very much.
Have a great year 2011!
