Igor, Ignacio and Ildephonse

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. We are now in our sixth round-some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "I".

ILLUMINATION

There are so many ways that one can demonstrate the word, 'illumination'. This is an image that I happened to have in my files. A lovely stained glass window at the Cathedral in Santa Fe.

IRRIDESCENT

The Magpie (or is it Raven?) in me is always attracted to anything with iridescence! I often incorporate it into many of my mixed media pieces. This is from the stash of costumes for Ballet Repertory Theater. Restrained, but elegant bling!

INSCRIPTION

This depicts the inscription of the Ten Commandments on the tablets that Moses is holding. This is from the altar screen at the Monastery of Christ In The Desert in Abiqui.

ICON

Our Lady of Guadalupe-this iconographic image is seen here in New Mexico just about everywhere. There is an infinite variety of stylized representations of her, but in all of them, she is surrounded by those points of light (I forgot what those were called).

What??? No Hawaiian words this go around? Oh, I ALMOST did use images of the heiau on Molokai called, "Ili'iliopae", but thought better of it. Maybe you'll see it in round 7, who knows?

As for Igor, that reference has to do with Igor Stravinsky. I don't know any Ignacio's personally, but that name here is not that uncommon. And Ildephonse? He was a Belgian priest that was on Molokai whilst I was a teen.

The illuminated window in the Cathedral is perfect for today. The building itself is a real historical treasure.

Great 'I' words, - especially iridescence. It is so magical the way it catches and reflects the light.

A wonderful collection of 'I's as usual! Love the 'inscription' picture and the halo around Our Lady of Guadeloupe. I often wonder how it came to be that saints were depicted this way. I wonder if we'll ever know?

The angel type bling certainly fits in with your theme. Love the illuminated glass window. You made me wait until the end like a true story teller to find out the meaning of ildephonse.
