Of Brambles and roses...
It's early as I put this together. My son fractured his elbow yesterday (a piece of the elbow bone has separated itself from the humerous bone). So, in about 20 minutes, we are headed off to the hospital for surgery!
I'm only saying this because I usually have a lot to say on my posts.
Of Brambles and roses; this image reminded me of the thorny vines that surrounded the castle of Sleeping Beauty after she pricked her finger on the spinning wheel and fell asleep.
I love the patterns cast by the lattice here: hypnotizing!
Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

Hello dear P!
Sad to hear what happened to you son. My thoughts will be with him.
Thorns and the brambles? Usch! but hey! you're a very smart, strong and clever lady, so, I can't ask for more with your great shot today.
Good Luck and take care.
Happy SS...
Thanks! I'm sitting here waiting while he is in surgery. Pretty routine surgery, but as a parent, it is my first experience with broken anything on my kid. Considering he is 18, this is not too bad!!
He broke his elbow skateboarding.
Very nice shadowshot:-)
Hope it`s going well with your son..
Wish you a good sunday!
I know how hard it is having a child in the hospital and particularly for surgery of any kind. I'm holding good thoughts for you both.
Terrific captures for the day, Paula!! So crisp and sharp. Hope the weekend goes well!
Sylvia
Hope surgery goes okay for your son.
I really like both these photos!
This is a nice look of two views: the natural plant made shadow vs. the man-made angles. The strength of the sun keeps us gasping as the clearly defined shadows of interesting subjects!
Sorry about your son's injury. I grew up as one of seven children, and scrapes, abrasions, sprains and breaks were a fairly common occurrence. as with our two kids, a parent is always the go-to person for these. And a parent's caring and love knows no bounds...
wonderful shots this week - and what dedication to post them whilst your son has a fracture!! very good luck at the hospital..
Your shadow shots are both marvelous! Sorry to learn of your son's mishap ... glad it's a fairly 'routine' surgery (if there is such a thing). Your experience reminds me that I was 8 when my brother fell from a tree and shattered his elbow ... and I remember that scary day with my mom and sister waiting at the hospital while they tried to put things back together. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.
Hugs and blessings,
Shadow of rose-thorn,
will one prick from you draw blood,
drain my life away?
Shadow-Furrowed Stone
hope he is OK....love your photos.
The shadowy geometry of the second shot is very attractive! Both very nice shots!
Oh, your poor son - I do hope the surgery goes well for him. That's why I don't go skate boarding. At my age just getting out of bed is an adventure.
Beautiful shadow shots.I love both.
I am sorry to hear about your son. I hope and pray that the surgery goes well.
Thanks for the visit
Hope your son is doing well, painful I'm sure...wish we were seeing the buds of the roses, but I'm afraid it's miles to go before spring...rats!!!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your son. This stuff is never fun.
Love the thorny shadows this week!
I love your shots but more importantly, I hope your son feels better soon and recovers quickly. That sounds nasty. Poor thing!
That's odd that Hot Fudge claims to have given up the skateboarding. I'm sure I spotted her skating down the city mall the other day causing all sorts of havoc!
PS - I tried copying one of your photos to save to include in a collage next week but it wouldn't let me. You have the 'no right click' happening. Clever people know ways around this. I'm not one of those clever types. Phooey!
Great captures of shadows!

Great shadows. I hope all goes well for your son.
The thorn shadows are so symbolic - hope your son heals well.
lovely photos - and I hope your son recovers quickly from his accident.
okay so the surgery story out does the photos...hope all turned out well... lovely shadow shots too.
Ouch! Hope he's doing okay.
Really like both of these--the sharp thorn shadows and the shadow grid.
Hope John is doing okay. the word verification for this is chedair! Appropriate for John eh? He can't have it but it finds him any way. You know the difference between major and minor surgery don't ya? Minor is what happens to the other guy, major is what happens to us! As strong and healthy as he is, he'll do fine in the healing part. smooches
Post surgery remarks (for those who clicked on email follow ups):
Thank you to everyone for all the kind words of support and encouragement.
The surgery went well. We were at the hospital nearly all day. The nurses were surprised that he was released the same day since he was under general anesthesia. However, the kid is healthy and quite the trooper. No pain meds post surgery and he is a chipper as they get.
Hopefully, he won't do anything foolish during the healing and recovery period to set himself back!
Again, thank you, everyone!
These are great! Love the sharpness of the brambles, and the patterns below!
Your shadows are beautiful! I hope your son's elbow heals soon!
I hope your boy has a quick recovery. I'm sure he'll be back skateboarding before you know it - most probably before the plaster is removed. Nice shadow shots :)
