How an image is presented certainly influences the viewer's response to it.
Case in point demonstrated here.
A vase of curvy willow branches placed behind the sheer curtains-just by converting the file to grayscale immediately softened the image. I got an added bonus from the moire pattern created by the sheers. Lots of soft curves going on in this image.
Compared the the hard feel of this image-taken in the early morning hours because it provides shadows with sharp lines.
Both subject matter I consider to be organic in origin. The curvy willow branches are 'hard' but the image created is soft.
The feather is soft, but the image created is 'hard'.
All by way of choices in how the images are presented.
Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!
You can also view all Shadow Shot postings I've done by scrolling all the way down and on the left side you will see an archive of labels for my posts. Look for Shadow Shot Sunday and click on that link for an "all you can view" buffet of shadow shots!

Lovely shots and I love the idea of the hard object making the soft shadow and vice-versa-most interesting! I am also partial to graffiti art-I liked the picture in the post below-and also the other art portrayed.
Such very beautiful shots! I love the different perspective that shadows give1
Have a great weekend!

Thanks, Sarah and Slyvia! I select the images I want to post and then I have to figure out what it is that made me select them to begin with. Listening to our intuition takes a lot of work. But, so well worth it, I think.
I can see the A's now! Like stencil letters.
Oh yes-just saw your other comment-intuition is a great thing!
Both fantastic shots!!!
Very pretty pictures. You have such a nice discription of the lines, etc..Me, I just snap and hope to heck I have a shadow..ha, ha.
Happy SSS.
I love the soft edges of that first shot!!
A single feather—
life to all who receive it
with awe and reverence.
My Shadow Shot
Those are very nice shadow shots. I do like the softness of the first. The sheer curtain adds a nice elegance to the picture.
Hello, great shadow shots this week, totally agree with you, give the photo a black and white and it changes the look and feel completely, just started taking shots in black and white and I love them. Thanks for sharing..have a great Sunday :) cya MOnikaORse
I love them both, the first for the soft calming effects and the latter for the organic, wild aspect of the Nature in the shot...but then I'm a sucker for the wildlife...so the second is my fave, but how true the concept.
Now you'll have us thinking about our pictures a bit more! Love your take on hard images & soft ones....great post!
Oh yes the way in which we present things can totally change the way we perceive the subjects. I like your way of thinking! I also had a chuckle at the comment left by 'Rosebud Collection' hehe. Another interesting take on shadow shooting. That's something I love about this meme. The diversity amongst us all! :)
Yes i like the hard / soft contrasts in these photos.
What a great post. I love the hard/soft perspective on things... and the photos are fantastic!
You always invites us the most artistic and very well done shots.
Thanks a mill for sharing and I really do enjoy your every post, though I don't leave any footprints.
God Bless...
