Farewell To My Ballet World In New Mexico

Ballet Repertory Studio, Albuquerque, NM

Ballet Repertory Studio-my dance home for the past 23 years in Albuquerque, NM

"Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow;
it empties today of its strength."
~Corrie Ten Boom

One of the first things I did when I moved to NM 23 years ago was to find a dance studio to take adult ballet classes at. I found the Ballet Repertory Studio. This studio has been my Monday morning routine for the most part in these past 23 years. The teachers and students in the class have come and gone over the years, but all of it has been nothing short of excellent. It's pretty cool when some of the professional dancers who are in town for a dance 'gig' drop in and take class-or even when the company dancers drop in and take class. This has been so much a part of my life here that it will feel like and arm or a hand is being severed to not have ballet class on a regular basis again. Molokai is too small to support a ballet studio. I'll be lucky to be able to drop in a class when I'm on Oahu. But, as my mother would tell me, 'when there is a will, there is will, there is a way'. I'll figure out something even if it means giving myself a ballet class!

I am pretty sure I've been the longest enrolled/attending student there since I've been there 23 consecutive years. This coming Monday will be my last class there. Such a life shift/change. I know I will be filling my life with new things on Molokai-as I've always wanted to study hula. At 61 years old, I hope my body can handle the challenge!

Join us as a group of us (yes-there are many of us!) from around the world post our shadow shots over at Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted!

(In a little more than a week from today, we will be moving back to my island home of Molokai. Exciting, terrifying, happy, sad all at the same time as I love New Mexico as much as I love Molokai. But, my husband and I and family are ready for this move and excited. There is so much to do in a very short amount of time, so I hope my fellow bloggers forgive me if I don't leave comments at your site or am sporadic about it. The next few months will be pretty crazy for us.)

Shadows make great art installations.

I was going to condole with you on the loss of your studio but then I realized it was the studio losing you, not YOU losing the studio. YOU are going home and excited about it. Ready for it. I'm happy for you. Let the hula lessons begin!

I was of the same mind as Anne, thinking the studio was closing, but you are leaving for a beautiful place. And I think the hula would be interesting to learn.
