The Tenderness of a Mother: Day 10

I did a Google search on the words, "the tenderness of a mother" and got this image you see above.  It's from a website called, the Orthodox Church In America and the description of this images reads as follows:

"The “Tenderness” Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God was found in the monastery of the caves in 1521, and was transferred to the city of Pskov by the pious Christians Basil and Theodore. The Icon is particularly renowned for the deliverance of Pskov and the Pskov Caves monastery from the army of Stephen Bathory (1533-1586) in 1581. It is commemorated on May 21, June 23, August 26, October 7, and on the Seventh Sunday of Pascha.

The Tenderness Icon of the Mother of God is of the Eleousa (Umilenie) type, and is regarded as the patroness of the city of Pskov.

The October 7 commemoration was established in thanksgiving for the deliverance of Pskov from the invading army of Napoleon in 1812."

Interesting, isn't it? At least, I think so. There is nothing like the tenderness of a mother.

A tradition that has gone on for many years now-where a group of bloggers (and anyone is welcome to join) will post for the first 12 days of December images that represent the Mother of Jesus. It ends on the Feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Some will write amazing words of inspiration and prayer. Others tell a story. Often, the image alone conveys the message and that is enough.
Come see what others have shared over at Rebecca's page. Feel free to join in with us whether if it's for one day or all 12!

So beautiful, both of them. As far as I'm concerned and what i use the Internet for, it is another blessed tool in my spiritual toolbox. Your googling and results prove this. Thanks.

Very beautiful images! I have been doing a lot of googling of Madonna images lately and hadn't seen either of these two icons. I will happily add them to my file.
