Great big Gobs of Green, Greasy Gohper Guts...

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our ELEVENTH round with 'Captain Roger' at the helm! Some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "G".

(Should I apologize for the grossness of the title? Perhaps some of you recognize this-the start of a goofy song about gross and unthinkable foods a la 'fast food' style-such as marmalade monkey feet, french fried eye balls drenched in a pool of blood-get them at your favorite store...and the spoon comes free). Ugh! Can you say, gross??  : )

GAMBESON

 (image from Wikipedia)

Gambeson is a quilted tunic worn under chain mail armor-meant to protect from chafing. It was indeed uncomfortable and a tad bit warm to wear! It's use was widespread in the 13th century and lasted through the 14th and 15th centuries.

GARDEN DECOR

I stand by the practice that you can never have too much by way of garden decor! Not that I have excessive garden decor, but I do love seeing whimsical images in my yard, don't you?

GOOD LUCK CAT

The Good Luck Cat: aka Maneki-neko (招き猫). Other names it is known as, is the Welcoming Cat, Money Cat or Fortune Cat. It's origin is not Chinese, but Japanese. My friend, Glenda Johnson made this for me from polymer clay one year (we were co-workers at the University of New Mexico). This one graces my Clavinova at home. I love it!

GAY'YOU

And yet, another random find for me in regards to obscure words that have to do with boats (I am STILL amazed). Gay'you is an Annamese flat bottomed boat.  Granted, there are many flat bottomed boats associated with Vietnam, Indonesia and the like. But, this is what the Gay'you is. It has sails.

Where do you find all of these wonderful words to share?
I sure do remember the song about greasy grimmy gopher guts. Sang that a camp many a time.

saw the thumbnail of the Gambeson and thought it was an image of George on his way to slay the dragon

I would think the combination horsehair and wool in a gambeson would be lethal in the comfort stakes, you may long for death by the sword. I always love seeing the red lucky cats, yours is unique.
