Art, Art, Everywhere!

Bamboo brushes artfully
drying in the sun...

OK, so brushes drying in a tree might not be viewed by many as art. But I am posting these images as they were from my Artist n Residence stint in October 2010 at the Petrified Forest National Park. On Nov. 6th (Saturday) Donna (who was the other artist there with me) and I will be doing a presentation about our experiences as Artists in Residence at the Esther Bone Library. Think of this as a 'commemorative' post!

The brushes and leaves cast some nice shadows on the tree trunk, but the tree also cast some nice shadows on the ground!

Shadow of said tree...

This is one of the many pieces of hand dyed fabrics that Donna produced, drying out in the sun.

I also created a DVD movie in lieu of a power point slide presentation for the program at Esther Bone Library. And, I must confess, I don't know how to make a power point presentation and I like the way a movie flows. So there, my 'secret' is out (that I don't know how to do a power point)!

Here's the movie:

(it was the first time I ever attempted doing a voice-over on a movie)

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

Hello there : )
I think the brushes drying on the tree are very much a point of art!
It could address so many thoughts about life and art and the virtue of patience .. waiting for a tree to grow .. waiting for the brushes to dry .. waiting for humanity to finally realize their place on earth and with themselves.
This was special.

The presentation was great - a powerpoint would be of still photos only. The video allows you to explain the nuance behind the photos, thus adding the artists touch we can really see (and are more close to understanding)...we have artist friends locally, and they use many mediums in their art. The voice-over is professional, and well scripted. Your land of NM is absolutely stunning, and the food - to die for! Very nice!

Marvelous captures and a great presentation/video! I love it! And I agree with Ralph, the voice-over is indeed well done! You do live in a beautiful place! Wishing you a lovely weekend, Paula!

There's also some shade on that brush--or maybe you're just focusing on the sun!

SHADOW, WILL YOU?

Shadow, will you always be
Here where I can always see
What you do and how you play?
Or will you just slip away?

Paula, I think this video is a hundred times better than a power-point presentation. You just made my day.
I enjoyed every minute of it, and can hardly wait to see the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert. I think it would be the most fun if one or more of our family artists went with us. My youngest brother and his family, or my step-daughter Andrea and her family—and of course me, my husband Dick, and our dog Lindy!
I can understand why you'd go back there again if invited. What a glorious place (or two places).

I always wanted to visit the Petrified Forest! That part of the country looks spectacularly beautiful.

I enjoyed the video, and I never would have known that was your first voice-over. It was great.

The meals you two made look delicious and quite healthy!

I'm having fun dabbling in photography. I even had a photo printed on canvas. It's framed and hanging in a gallery now. I'm lucky that a friend runs the gallery.

I should send you the link. I put it on my blog..

I hope the presentation went well for you and your companion. I remember when you went onn that trip and how excited you were. What a grand experience it must have been, and it's still giving.
As for the brushes drying as art, well, art is art, and I have learned that it doesn't even have to be judged, but rather, enjoyed.
Good stuff as usual.

Peace
