Infamous Infusoria Infused In Irises

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our NINTH round! Some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "I".

IRISES

In this case, these are called, Japaneses Irises-they grow in the planter outside of my dining room window. I planted the bulbs years ago and they are slowly 'multiplying'. Albeit, not as quickly as the other irises I have in my yard, but they are getting there! They are the first of all my irises to bloom in the spring season-by about 2-3 weeks ahead of the others. I do love my irises as they don't mind the neglect that I so generously dole out to them! Indeed! They are visually, irresistible to me. I find myself inspecting them closely and they are often the subject matter for many a macro shot. Which, proves to be more challenging than it sounds as when these lovelies appear, the spring winds are upon us relentlessly. It is like trying to catch a moving target.
Are you wondering why they look a bit off? That's because not only did I take the image on my cell phone, but then I I also altered the image with photo software-mimicking the look of the Polaroid manipulations of the Time Zero film.

INFUSORIA

Infusoria. Not to be confused with infusion!!!!

Ah, a strange word, isn't it? Don't worry-it's not part of my everyday vocabulary-I stumbled upon it looking up something else.

According to Wikipedia, Infusoria is a collective term for minute aquatic creatures like ciliates, euglenoids, protozoa, and unicellular algae that exist in freshwater ponds. Apparently, some aquarium afficionados use them to feed their aquatic specimens; so perhaps they are amongst the few of you out there that know this word intimately.

Have an incredible, irresistible (even if it may seem improbable) day!

I really like the treatment on the iris. It has a watercolor quality to it. Very artsy!
Never heard that word before. I wonder how I can infuse it into my conversation. (:0)

I've heard the word "infusoria" before but couldn't have given you a definition. Now I know.
Beautiful iris photo. My small irises on the unprotected north side of the house came up this year, but my big ones on the protected east side didn't. Very strange, but it was a very strange winter.

Oh gosh, Paula! I thought the irises was a painting! It's absolutely stunning and you should have it enlarged and made into a giclee!

Love the iris, and love the photo. It looks like a painting. You are a good "doctor".
I'll stay away from the infusoria, none for me thanks.
Hope all is going well.
