Old MacDonald Had a....Shadow

Lurking Amongst These Shadows are Roosters

You can't really see one in this shot, but he's in that pen. Somewhere.

This one came out for a pose. I guess they are all kind of shy. This is over at Charlie Haskin's place in Pruitt, NM.

Every day, I'm sure, they announce the next round of shadows with their crowing. I grew up with chickens at our house, so the sound of roosters crowing every morning is a sound that comforts me. Brings me back home. For those who didn't grow up with it, I suppose it can be annoying.

"Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see." (Martin Luther King)

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

As a SSS participant, you are cordially invited to post your shadow shots over at the Flickr SSS Group Room! It would be nice to create a large 'album' of our images.

Now, I'm sure the title of this post might, just might have prompted a little tune in your head...eiyay eiyay oooo!

There is absolutely nothing annoying about a rooster crowing just before the break of day. (Actually, LONG before the break of day!)

I HAD A LITTLE SHADOW
(With apologies to Robert Louis Stevenson)

I had a little shadow
No bigger than my thumb;
I took him to the meadow
And there I gave him rum.

My drunken little shadow
Did weave and bob and pitch;
He stumbled from the meadow
And fell into a ditch!

What great, strong shadows, Paula! That has to mean lots of sun and I'm envious, but happy for you!! Love your framing of the roosters! Hope you have a lovely weekend! Enjoy!

The birds are proud, they have this reserved sense of being heard, but never seen. The shadows seem to indicate that the rosters will present themselves only when they are good and ready. I wonder how the hens like tis bit of rooster arrogance?? The coop is very artistic even minus a sight of the birds...

Great shadows, Paula! I don't mind the sound of roosters crowing, but my favorite soothing sound is the whistle of a train.

I too grew up with the wonderful sounds of roosters announcing the dawn. I can't imagine that it would be annoying, but maybe if one wasn't accustomed to it I guess. I love your shadow shots! have a great week.

Love the patterns that the shadows have cast, especially on the rooster.

When I stay at my brother's, I too hear the roosters. A natural alarm clock. :)

Cool shots! I like the crowing of a rooster...but I'm not sure I'd want to hear it everyday :)
