Knock, knock...

Who's there?

Ida.

Ida who?

Ida know, go answer the door!

Sorry. It had to be told! After all, it is a front door...

"Reality is a perception-not a reflection of truth." Or, perhaps, even closer to the truth: "We don't see what we see. We see what we want to see."

Take, for example, the Necker Cube. It demonstrates how we can see something in two different ways even though what we are looking at is the same thing.

This visual illusion is clearly demonstrated here. It is really fascinating as you really cannot control your mind to see the same thing as the object shifts in rotation. Try as you may...

Perception, or what we perceive to be reality is not as concrete as we all tend to believe that it is. But, yet we operate on a daily basis being self-assured in that what we see is reality indeed. We have to, because if we don't, we couldn't function!

But, I want to put it out there to you that reality is a perception. Your perception. My perception. We all have our own interpretations of what our reality is. Which makes the truth an even rarer thing, doesn't it?

Hmmm....

"Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see." (Martin Luther King)

Every week, a group of us from around the world post our shadow shots over at Hey Harriet. Entertain your muse and be amused by stopping by to see what others have posted! You can view all of my 2010 Shadow Shot Sunday images on my Flickr account. Click here to view them.

Someday I would like to have a really ornate front door, with grille, like the one in your photo.

SHADOW COUNTING

A shadow for one?
What fun, what fun!

A shadow for two—
In black or blue?

A shadow for three?
O my, O me!

A shadow for four?
Ah, mi amour!

A shadow for five?
Coming alive!

A shadow for six?
Light playing tricks!

wrought iron shadows are indeed some of my favourites...

I suppose vaudeville has returned - the standup of the past works fine here, and I enjoy your sense of timing!

The old door with the wrought iron design has the style of the 1950s, a sight we do not see much of anymore...

The Necker cube is a cool and illusory thing. Which way it goes is merely limited by how our minds work, how open to suggestion we may be. Does it angle up or down? Cool!

Oh, yes! Wrought iron shadows are my all time favorite, too! Wish I could find some to shoot without having to leave the state just to get enough sunshine to take a pic!!! Oh, I know, whine, whine, whine!! Terrific shadow shot for the day, Paula, as always! Have a great weekend!!

Great quote! We definitely perceive most of life in shadows.

and no one perception is right or wrong...it's like an opinion. it just is.

...It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see. The writer shakes up the familiar scene, and as if by magic, we see a new meaning in it... ANAIS NIN

Beautiful shadows on the door, Paula.
You are so right about perception. I try, when I can, to participate in writing memes where a photo is presented as a prompt, and am always amazed at the number of ways different people see the same photo.
We see what we've been taught to seek, what our eyesight will allow us to see, what our memories will allow us to recognize.
Very interesting post. I enjoyed it. Even Ida who, haven't heard of her for many a year.
