Irrepresible Isabella

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our EIGHTH round! Some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "I".

ICING

Whether it is the figurative 'icing on the cake' or the literal 'icing on the cake', either way, it is GOOD. Unless, of course, you are one of amongst those (a minority I suspect) that does not care for sweets at all. But, if this image suddenly gave you an urge to make  chocolate cake and frosting from scratch (and it is worth the effort), you can visit my food blog   for the recipe and more images of cake and icing to torture yourself with (I rarely post there so don't think I have tons of free time on my hands!! LOL).

ISABELLA D'ESTE (by Titan)

(image from Wikipedia)

Funny when you take art history courses, there is very little  curriculum by way of female artists and women who had a heavy influence in the history of art. I think Isabella D'Este is a heavy hitter.  I don't think the art history course that I took even mentioned her name when it came to the Renaissance era. And, if it did, it was condensed to perhaps a few sentences. Compared to Jackson Pollack (in the modern art segment) who is covered ad nasuem. Sorry, Jackson, but I don't understand why there is more 'press' about you than Isabella, let alone your talented wife. I mean, the amount of time that we spent in class with Jackson in proportion to Isabella is shameful. So, of course, I picked HER as a topic for my research paper.

This woman wielded more power and influence than Martha Stewart (to try and offer some sort of modern day equivalency or perspective). A humanitarian and a visionary. Well, I hope you are intrigued and visit the link for Isabella to learn more about this incredible woman. I think she was a powerhouse and changed the course of history. She must have been a very intelligent woman too.

I took a course on art history with a heavy emphasis on the Renaissance period and I don't remember a single mention of Isabella! I'm glad she was more recognized in her own time.

Thanks for the challenge. I don't know anything about her.
That cake looks divine. Love licking frosting from the bowl too.

I must check Isabella out...I never understood Pollack's fame, frankly, as I think anyone could stand and flick and flop paint splatters on a huge canvas and say it was "art."

Isabella looks like a woman who knows what she wants. I was amused when I read on Wikipedia that she made Titian repaint her looking much younger.
She must have been an exceptional character.

Once I'd torn myself away from the cake, I could concentrate on Isabella, fascinating, plenty of material for a dissertation. I wonder if she is still missed off the curriculum.

I think that Isabella is the icing on the cake of art history. You are right women are always treated unfair and putting in the shadow of men.Good post!de

Love the cake!

You're right, it seems women are largely ignored in some areas, and art is one of them. Art and history have always seemed to me incredibly selective in what they teach in schools. Since the philosophy of our educators seems to be 'teach everyone everything', this seems to be a very strange deviation. The curriculums should be broader and include people like Isabella.

I have been trying to talk my husband into baking a cake for two days now. Maybe I can use your blog to convince him!
