Flabbergasted Fish Finds Floating Flotsam

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our EIGHTH round! Some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "F".

The Fishy Who Found the Floating Flotsam

Yes, fishy was flabbergasted. Found the flotsam, but no jetsam! "Fishy" was a really cool sculpture outside of a gallery in Taos that I have digitally played around with. If I had the money, he'd go in my backyard, that's for sure!

Here is the said Flotsam:

This is on the rocky northern coast of Molokai. The winter storms bring big surges that deposit all kinds of floating treasures. Some things travel far-as far as from Japan, Alaska, etc. There's a HUGE tree trunk washed up a long time ago in this section-makes me think it came from Alaska. Lots of rubber floaters from fishing boats. Lots of rubber slippers, or flip flops as you mainlanders like to call them. The really interesting part, is that all of the slippers, ALL of them are only the left side. I'm sure on the other side of the equator, all the right sides have washed up on other shores!

Frankly, I find that fascinating!

Here's an aerial view of the coastline on the north shore
of Molokai where this flotsam has washed up on.

Love the fish out of water. I've had some great flotsam finds including planks of wood, but nothing recently, it must be all washing up at Molakai.

You taught me a new word--flotsam. I didn't know that was what I like to collect. LOL!

The sculpture is fabulous! Yes strange that only the left side slippers were washed on the shore. The same happened once on one of our beaches.

I could totally see that fish in your yard!
You know those people who lost the left flip flop? They're all right now.

Rubber slippers indeed. If I remember, I'll call them that from now on and tell all my friends that's what my Hawaiian friend calls them. (By the way, I don't wear them, I can't stand anything in between my toes)

I love to cruise the beaches for driftwood. I don't know what I'm looking for excactly, but I do pick up some pieces and use them in Dream Catchers, landscapes and table top rock gardens.

On the coast, it might rain, back in NM Tuesday.

peace

What a fun post for F! Cool fish-sculpture! I love all of the rubber slippers that have washed up on the shore - only the left ones! How is that possible?!
Great post!
