Yipes

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our seventh round-some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. This week's letter is, "Y".

YIPES: an exclamation of pain, alarm, dismay.

This piece of pipe is not very big. Maybe about 4". That hole that you see? Maybe about 1/2". This one little thing has caused us a lot of trouble today (that will last for weeks to come). We have a home office/studio on our property. It is our life blood. When Mark opened the door to it this morning, water came rushing out. There was 6 inches or more of water on the first floor. The second floor was flooded too (and also where the water was coming from).

This is the first floor (standing in the entry way). Everything  will have to come out of the building while repairs and restoration begin. It has been the freezing temperatures that froze the pipe and then caused it to burst. Hard to imagine so much water coming out of such a small hole causing so much damage.

I thought about not posting anything at all for the ABC meme this week, but I needed to latch on to some sense of normalcy by keeping to a small part of my routine. And, I know that people in Queensland are going through far worse than this. And people back east have had weeks of freezing temperatures and horrendous snowstorms leaving deep piles of snow.  And, California is pretty darned soggy and cold.  I know that it could be worse than it is. And, I'm glad that it isn't.

But, I think that "yipes", even though it may seem like an understatement, is an appropriate choice for today.

Oh, that's too bad. You definitely have my sympathy! Thank God, that has never happened to me!

EW! That is NOT a happy sight! True, other places may have worse problems but THIS is happening to YOU so I understand why you might feel angry and frustrated!

Oh my goodness, what a sight to wake up to. Yipes is putting it mildly. I hope all works out for you and life gets back to normal soon.

That would be very yucky to have to deal with. I'm sorry you had that happen.

Oh, what a lousy way to start the day! I probably wouldn't have been as nice about the word I used, but it is a great one for your Y Day that's for sure. Hope otherwise your new year is off to a great start!!

Oh dear Paula! What a mess and yipes is quite right. I did "yikes" today but for quite a different reason. Sure hope things get cleaned up quickly and easily and things get back to normal.

Yipes is right, Paula. I've had a couple of floods in this house and it is No Fun. Please accept my sympathy because, despite the fact that, yes, there are worse disasters happening around the world, a flood, even a small one, is a Yipes kind of thing.

Yipes for sure. So sorry for the "flood". I hope you can recover from it quickly and move on. May your YIPES turn to YIPPEE in the near future.

What a disaster, not a good way to start the year. Kudos for still doing an ABC post AND being first up. I hope your clear up goes smoothly.
What a freeze it has been, we are not prepared for these low temperatures, two of my friends also have had frozen pipes.

Oh man. That's ugly. Good for you for finding the gold in the mess and keep on trucking.

I hope you've got folks who can help ready, willing, and able.

I am sorry to read that you have so much damage. Water can be very destructive. We in the Netherlands know this too well.I hope that you have the courage to start restoration.

Sorry to see you're dealing with this. It's especially bad when it is a surprise and the pipe has been leaking while you were unaware of it. Hope the clean-up and repair goes quickly and didn't cause too much damage.
Of course I have experienced similar escapades over the years. Our well pump froze one year. Besides the new pump I had to buy, I had to put heat tape on the entire pipeline. I thought I had done it, but there was section of about 2 inches that I couldn't reach. I thought the heat from the rest of the pipe would keep this section warm enough not to freeze. I was wrong, so each day, it seemed, for an entire Winter, I had to take a hair dryer, and put it in a hole I drilled in the wall, for about 4-5 minutes to thaw out the section without the heat tape. Some nights, I'd get up in the middle of the night to thaw it out so it wouldn't burst. I'd also leave the water running a little to keep the flow going. That kept it from freezing most of the time unless it got down to really cold temps, like -20 or something like that.
Good thpughts sent your way.

Peace.
