Uppity U's!

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. This fabulous meme was created and hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt who hails from Great Britain. Over time, others have joined in to help host this wonderful and informative meme. We are now in our seventh round-some of the participants have been with this from the very first round; others have joined in along the way. Each week we are taken across the globe to see the varied and exciting contributions people have taken the time to discover and capture. We start with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. Not to be underestimated, this week's letter is, "U".

UNGULATE

Ungulate. Such a strange, strange sounding word. I mean, it doesn't even mean anything at all what it sounds like. I guess it sounds too close to 'undulate' to me, so I have trouble wiping that out of my memory bank! Ungulate refers to a group of animals with hooves (roughly). Horses have hooves. And, I do love horses and these were casually eating off the side of the road on the way to Chaco Canyon.

UMBRELLA

Actually, I take that back. It's the underside of an umbrella!

UTENSILS

Utensils in my utensil drawer (yes, a whisk for every task possible-small medium and large tasks!). I utilize my utensils on a daily basis! A very useful kitchen utility.

UFO's

(from the petrogylph series, mixed media on cradle board 6" x 6")

UFO's= Unfinished objects! From the work that I created during my recent artist in residence at PFNP.  I used a lot of umber product in this one.

Are we unanimous in our understanding that u's could be a lot of fun?

Clever choices for U. That first one sounds like somebody trying to swallow. Never would have guessed it was about hooves.
Its always fun to come here and see what you have concocted for ABC Wednesday.

I've got a big rack on the wall with a lot of utensils hanging off it. And I think I might have as many whisks as you do as well... (unless you're only showing half of them of course)

Great Us. I love that you have a whisk for every occasion. (Me too.)

The treatment you used in the horse photo is delightful.

UFO cracked me up. I come from a family who lives by the creed of UFOs.

In observing your UFO I at least see an object that actually exists (in contrast to the other kind) - and a great one at that.

Yes U can be a lot of fun, yet it's a difficult letter for a Dutch person! You are so clever to find so many U-words!

I see you whisk up a storm, impressive, both in number and neatness. Bright fireball here today, much excitement, unfortunately not a UFO (we come in peace). It would fit in with your Mary meme, no wise men though, it was a meteor.

Dear Paula,
You are first commenter on my U-post and get an extra link back to this blog.
Thank you for visiting my U-post and helping me out with the etymology of my U-word 'uxoricide'. I was a little hesitant about doing this post, and I am grateful for the encouragement.
You have some interesting U-words on your post, and lovely photos.
Best wishes,
Anna

Lovely U post. Ungulate is a funny word, isn't it? Far too clumsy for the elegant creatures that horses are.
