A Slew of "S's": Simply Silly!

ABC Wednesday is a word meme with participants from around the world. Our Host, Mrs. Nesbitt hails from Great Britain. We started with the letter, "A" and each week we post something in regards to the next letter of the alphabet. We are now in our second year, round 4! This week's letter is, "S".

A Spam Haiku Book made from Polymer Clay.

Each 'slab' of Spam has a Haiku written on it

Haiku #1

Glistens, pink, bejeweled

Nearly 2 X 4 inch slab

A GEM of a meat!

Haiku #2

Please hold your disdain

Had YOU grown up eating it

You'd feel differently.

Haiku #3

One bite transports me

Childhood dreams awake in me

Emotions abound!

Haiku #4

How do I love Spam?

Boiled, fried, broiled, baked in a stew

Much, so much to do!

(Please do not reprint any of this without my permission or I shall have to force feed you a can of Spam!)

Shaved Ice-a Hawaiian treat. The ice is shaved with a large circular blade. Not to be confused with a Snow Cone!!!

Shrimp Plant (that's what we call this in Hawaii. I'm sure it goes by other names, but I'm not aware of them!). Look closely at the yellow bloom; there are little white things sticking out between the petals. THAT'S the part that looks like a shrimp. Click on the image to get a larger view.

Sludge

Really. This was in my sister's neighbor's yard. The bottle of water is to put weight on a branch to train it to grow in a certain direction. Over time, 'sludge' grew in the bottle of water. Well, I'm sure it's some sort of fungus, but to me, it looks like sludge!

Spiral Staircase

This is the world famous spiral staircase in the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It's famous because engineers, architects and carpenters are STUMPED as to how this staircase can bear the weight load. For the sake of preservation, they no longer let folks walk up this staircase.

Succulent Plant

I have a lot of "S's", don't I?

Spam???!!! Oh my! Spam!! I am almost without words.

And those shrimp plants really looks like they are all in a row, like little penguins, maybe dancing a line dance. :)

These are so fun & the succulent plant is gorgeous! And I must say it is probably the only blog post in the history of blogging that includes sludge & spam together. I'm going to google it up & see what I get! LOL!

Lots of nice S's her, but as a hobby photographer, the "succulent plant took the cake", so to speak.

I love your posts - they are so full of interest and information!

The Spam haikus! LOL!! So funny!

We have Shrimp Plants here, but only as houseplants, and I've never been able to keep one for long. I do have a succulent just the same as the one you have shown us, though. It does well in my conservatory. I love the picture you took of yours!

The bottle - what a great idea! I might try that. And the spiral staircase .. wow. I guess it's just perfectly balanced and the ratio is just right. It's a shame it's no longer used.

Yes, you DO have alot of SSS, but they are all so good! I think my fave has got to be the haikus on spam...so original...the succulent plant looks real...

Yes, the succulent plant is real! It is in the graveyard just east of Kaunakakai on Molokai. Many family members have been laid to rest there. There are several grave sites with these plants as they grow with very little water and help to make the site look better. Sure beats the artificial flowers that get dirty and fade!

What a colourful S. That shaved ice looks interesting. The star is of course the succulent photo.

Ewwww...Spam! Great selection and a very creative use of spam. Just yesterday I stumbled upon a pinhole camera made from a Spam tin. The guy who created it called it a Spamera...hehe :D
