December View #31 (Being and Time)

The SEVENTH day of Christmas

The last day of the year...

Explaination and list of "December Views" participants here.

Post Script: Wow. My last "December Views" entry for 2008. Thank you to DJ Kreutzer for hosting this event. It has given me a chance to slow down and observe more of what the season means to me. For that, I am very grateful. It also prompted me to write a haiku for most of my entries which were daily. Both events are outside of my 'norm'. I don't think DJ could ever have envisioned the ripple effect that her "December Views" project created. But, what a wonderful ripple that occurred as a result. Worldwide, too! Who'da thought?

As we head into a new year that is full of a whole bunch of scary unknowns, I hope we all keep in mind that there really is a silver lining in every cloud (one of my dear mom's favorite and frequently quoted sayings). Sometimes it's tricky to find that silver lining, but it is always there. Just keep looking! Happy New Year to one and all!

The SIXTH day of Christmas

Explaination and list of "December Views" participants here.

Image: a vase filled with green glass stars with Christmas lights in and around the glass.

Sidebar notation: I attended a memorial service this morning. Ramona J. Johnson passed away quite suddenly on the morning of Christmas Eve. That morning, she told her husband, Ray that she had had one of her best night's sleep. And then, she was gone. Just like that. I had just seen her four days prior to that.

My heart goes out to her husband Ray and to the rest of the family. Ramona and Ray were always together and where ever they were, there was lots of energy and laughter. When they looked at each other, their eyes always had a twinkle in it; as though they had a really juicy secret that only the two of them knew. Their committment to being invovled in their community is something that more people should do. Ramona's legacy is her incredible joy for life, her laughter and her contributions to our community here in Rio Rancho. A pretty good legacy, I say. I hope I do as well. Ramona is two years younger than I am. I'm 54.

The FIFTH day of Christmas!

Explaination and list of "December Views" participants here.

A really old Chevy truck (looks like it's a thirty's something model) decked out for the Holidays at this really cool place on 4th St. in the north valley of Albuquerque called, "The Service Station". In their back lot are about 8 or more old Chevy pickup trucks. Not that I have a fondness for the old Chevy trucks (prior to 1952).

My Daddy

He plays his music

Enticing others to give

To those who have less

Explaination and list of "December Views" participants here.

Image is of my daddy playing his guitar and singing outside of the Friendly Isle Market (in Kaunakakai, Molokai) for the Salvation Army. He does this even though he is not in the best of health being diabetic and a kidney dialysis patient (three times a week). The shunt in his arm makes playing uncomfortable, but he feels strongly about making his contribution to the world. That's my daddy!
