Eagle Nest Parade

I guess Im not really done with my Independence Day posting! On July 4th, we were in a parade at Eagle's Nest located in the mountains of northern New Mexico.
We rode in our friend's new (he just got it but it really isn't new; it's about 40 years old) Unimog. Mark drove it. It was such a HOOT being in a parade in a small town. All of Mora county and tourtists visitng the area came out for the parade. So, I took photos from inside the Unimog and the expressions on everyone's face is priceless; from total enthusiasm to "what the heck is that thing?".
You can check out the images from this parade at my web album (click here for the link).
I was never one for watching parades, but I think it really helps to be in a small town where eveyone actually looks forward to it and appreciates it. I'm hooked; I hope to be there again next year. In the Unimog of course!

I have never been one for parades either, but, riding around in one of those unimogs (never heard of these!) looks like so much fun!
Maybe that's the key....rather than watching a parade, be a part of it!

Glad you had a great time :)

what memories this trips into motion for me! although not because of the UNIversal-MOtor-Gerät", Gerät being the German word for machine (great idea to link to the wikipedia btw) but because i grew up in a small town and there was a 4th of july parade that was one of the highlights of that holiday weekend. we would never have missed it! the e biggest event was the carnival that always took place as a part of the celebration. a real carnival! thanks for the memories. i went to your picassa photos an you got really great photos of the crowd...but where are you? :)

Yes, Jaime, I think the key is to be in it!
And Robin, I'm the one behind the camera! Glad this brought back great memories for you. Now I know why people do get excited about parades. I think they have a much better 'flavor' when it's in a small town and there is a great sense of community.
